STATES CHRONICLE – Europe is planning on investing in a mission to the Red Planet. Some people are preparing themselves to go to Mars since 2003. Unfortunately, this radical plan of traveling through space was rescheduled. Back in 2003, Europe used Beagle 2 rover to land it on Mars, but the mission failed. A few months ago, Schiaparelli Rover crashed into the Red Planet’s surface, jeopardizing the contact with its mothership.
Nevertheless, the mission did not mean total failure because astronomers managed to gather data which will help Russia and Europe to land their ExoMars craft on Mars in 2021. European research authorities have decided to provide the mission with approximately $430,450,000 to continue its study. This is a difficult situation for the success of the mission depends on a lot of things. The rover will land on Mars to drill its surface to find useful data about signs of life from the past.
Scientists need to be hopeful, trustful and very patient to be ready to try again if they fail, learning from their mistakes. The European Space Agency (ESA) has announced that all their money will be invested in their plan for the ExoMars craft which is bound to be launched on a mission to track signs of life by analyzing the surface of the Red Planet.
ESA represents Europe’s way to travel into cosmos. The purpose of the agency is to determine the development of the space capability of Europe, enabling that investments in space traveling are only meant to bring benefits to Europeans and the whole world.
The ExoMars spaceship will be built in Stevenage, at UK space plant in Airbus. The craft is prone to dig into the surface of Mars to search for indications of microbial life. Even if the council only approved of the investments of this mission to 2021, the ministers have decided to maintain the involvement of ESA in the International Space Station until 2014. This plan will go in line with the strategies used by Canadian, Japanese, Russian and US partners.
Jan Woerner, the director-general of ESA, has claimed that the ExoMars mission is now entirely financially supported. He argued that he trusts his people and the fact that they will do their best to wisely spend the money and follow the plan and schedule.
