Having Some Extra Pounds Might Not Be Beneficial For Your Health

extra pounds

Previous research showed that having extra pounds can be beneficial for you.

Most of the studies that are made nowadays are controversial. Today we see a study that states something is beneficial for you and tomorrow other scientists show that the same thing is actually bad. This is what happened to these studies too.

Previous research showed that having extra pounds can be beneficial for you. These extra pounds can even help you live longer. The researchers that conducted this older study mentioned that only overweight people benefit from this, not obese people. This research was published in the journal JAMA in 2013.

Today, a new research comes to contradict the one made 4 years ago. This new study shows that people who carry a few extra pounds have a higher risk of developing certain diseases. The research conducted by researchers from Boston University School of Public Health was published in the Annals Of Internal Medicine.

This new study showed that people who have a few extra pounds have a higher chance of dying earlier than people who have a regular body mass. The researchers mentioned that the risk is bigger with 6%. Despite the fact that it might not seem like a big number it is concerning because so many people are overweight nowadays.

The Difference Between Obese And Overweight

There is a big difference between obese people and those who are overweight. First of all, people who are obese have a BMI (body mass index) of more than 30. Overweight people have a BMI of 25 to 29.9. This means that they have a few extra pounds (from 10 to 30 extra pounds).

Another difference is related to the health. Obese people have a higher risk of developing diabetes, high blood pressure, and other life-threatening conditions. On the other hand, the health of overweight people is still debatable. Earlier studies showed that overweight people are healthy people who can even live longer than others.

This new research contradicts the previous one by demonstrating that both obese and overweight people are more likely to develop health problems. Despite this fact, there is still a big difference between obese and overweight people.

Taking everything into consideration, people should be more careful with their diet and exercise more. A fit body is a healthy one. Also, it is important to know that almost 70% of the US population is obese or overweight. This means that people need to take better care of their health.
