Florida man accused of beating baby with belt and throwing her in the over.
Florida authorities recently announced that the state-wide manhunt for Terry May, the 45-year-old individual suspected of beating a 3-year-old girl with a belt before placing her in a hot oven has ended. The man turned himself over to the authorities on Thursday.
Florida Man Denies Child Abuse Allegations
According to the Florida authorities, the events which culminated with Terry May turning himself over to the Volusia County Sheriff’s office started to unfold several days ago when May’s former girlfriend called the authorities and told them that she found signs of abuse on her 3-year-old’s girl.
The woman told the authorities that the man allegedly brutalized her girl before running away. Mike Chitwood, the Volusia County Sheriff, said that the child was rushed to the hospital in critical condition with severe body traumatisms and scorch marks.
After hearing the woman’s testimony, the authorities launched a state-wide manhunt in order to apprehend the Florida man. The hunt ended on Thursday when Terry May walked into the Sheriff’s Office.
According to the official police report, while being alone with the three-year-old, May decided to punish her. The man reportedly took out her belt and stroke the child multiple times. To top it all off, May allegedly opened the oven’s door and threw the child inside, with the oven still running.
At this point, the man was charged with child abuse, and he’s being held on a $50,000. Although all odds are against him, May’s family come to defend the man saying that he could never do anything to hurt the baby and that someone else must have abused her.
Still, the medical report suggests that this isn’t the first time May used the belt to discipline the tyke. The case is being under scrutiny.
