Amnesty International published a report which can change what we thought of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, which occurred in the summer of 2014. 11 children were murdered in Gaza last summer after a missile attack that everybody blamed Israel for. But Amnesty International`s report shows that was not the reality. According to them, the missile was of Palestinian origin, it was fired in a wrong way and the result was the death of innocent people.
“In the deadliest incident believed to have been caused by a Palestinian armed group during the conflict, 13 Palestinian civilians – 11 of them children – were killed when a projectile exploded next to a supermarket in the crowded al-Shati refugee camp in Gaza on 28 July 2014, the first day of Eid al-Fitr. The children had been playing in the street and buying crisps and soft drinks in the supermarket at the time of the attack.”
has been shown in the report published by Amnesty International.
The international organization continues to explain. They claim that they got to these results after working alongside with a specialist in munition, who was of independent origin. Amnesty International states that, even if, until now, it was thought that Israel is guilty for the missile attack, after the investigations it seems that a Palestinian rocket caused the damage.
Moreover, the report emphasizes the fact that it would have been impossible that the blast to have been caused by a drone attack or by the Israeli artillery or combat vehicles. The crater was not an impressive one judging by its depth. On the other hand, it was too wide to have been caused by an Israeli tank shell.
Philip Luther, who is the leader of the Middle-East and North-America programs at the Amnesty International brings forth the crimes that the Palestinian armed groups may be responsible for. Luther says that such groups, including the Hamas extremists, were disregarding the humanitarian laws and that the armed groups showed recklessness in connection with the consequences of their actions. That is why they are responsible for the death of innocent civilians, according to the report published by Amnesty International.
Ever since the missile attack, Hamas and Israel blamed each other for the death of the 13 civilians. Still, no one believed Israel, as Hamas was the first to accuse its enemy. Not even when journalists covering the Gaza conflict told that they thought a Hamas missile caused the damage.
