Numerous humpback whales have been spotted in New York’s Queens region waters. The whales have been detected especially in the waters of Rockaway peninsula. The event is seen as the biggest rebound of whales in the area with about one hundred of these enormous creatures being spotted up to this point. For this reason, this is uplifting news for the natural life advocates.
The humpback whale is an endangered species and is a regular inhabitant of New York waters and often shows up next to the Big Apple’s shores. So tourists should get ready to see their gigantic tails and furrowed backs in the time to come.
Gotham Whale, an association which records the how many whales roam the area says that usually only 15 individual humpbacks are usually counted each year. However this year the association said it discovered 106 whales, while in 2013 it observed 33 of these amazing huge underwater creatures.
Howard Rosenbaum, director of the Ocean Giants program at the Wildlife Conservation Society stated in a radio declaration that it is genuinely exceptional to have one of the biggest and most charming species ever to inhabit this planet swimming in the waters of Empire State Building.
As per Rosenbaum, he considers that more imperiled whales are seen in NY waters as a consequence of a shift in their migration and feeding habits and not because of a general increases in their numbers.
Apparently the whales have now found in the NY‘s sea the ideal food for an incredible lunch comprised of sea lions, birds and other small creatures. Experts believe this is an extraordinary sign for whales and for the whole surrounding ecosystem.
The founder of Gotham Whale ,Paul Sieswerda puts forth another hypothesis. He believes that the wales were attracted by the cleaner water in the area.
He suggested the whales might have wanted to return in the NY area for some time now but the poor living conditions in the shore’s water probably kept them away until now.
These creatures are not shark-lie brutal. Whales are well known for their conduct and the personality. They are endowed singers and excellent listeners. Also, they are not fans of large animals as food ingredients and they have no impetus to swallow. They typically open their expansive mouth to get food or chase pelicans which generally escape their hunt. But they do have shark-like solid jaws.
Those visiting New York during this period should get their cameras with them and visit the coast of Big Apple.
