make up app You know you live in a highly technologically – driven world when a global leading cosmetic company delivers an augmented reality make – up app that gets to be labeled as “genius” and “spectacular”.

Ladies, this one is for you and for you only! The famous company L’Oreal revealed the “Magic Genius” app you can use with your iPhone or iPad and by the looks of it, it will set the standard in the beauty / tech industry for here on end.

Over are the days when you had to test lipsticks and compact powder on the back of your hand! Over are the days when you could only hope that a particular mascara would actually curl and blacken your lashes as marketed! And over are the times you had to test, re-test and re-make your make-up just to look as you wished. The new L’Oreal augmented reality make – up app works just like a mirror, and then some! Let’s see it described by the company itself:

Unlike existing beauty apps that can merely render colors onto a pre-uploaded static image, Makeup Genius uses a highly-advanced facial mapping algorithm that allows women to try on eye shadow, eyeliners, lip colors and blushes and play with different looks, all in real time. Makeup Genius captures 64 facial data points and 100 different facial expressions, making it intuitive enough to discern between the skin of the lips, eyes and other facial contours, allowing the virtual makeup to move with you as you turn your head, change your facial expression and test out new looks at various angles and lighting conditions. The app also works in more than 400 different lighting conditions and takes into account all ethnicity to ensure the resolution and performance of the makeup including texture, finish and color are all accurate.

So basically, you can download the app from the app store and stand still and relaxed while the app scans your face. After that, you can try the “Individual products” section or the “Looks” section. If you go for the first one, you are given the opportunity to try different make-ups and products, from lipstick to eye – shadow, mascara, concealer and so on. Next, try the Looks section, as that is the moment when magic and genius begin. You will look like being professionally handled by a make – up artist and you can pucker up lips and beat your eye lashes all you want, the image will follow you faithfully.

We talked about other amazing inventions that brought together the beauty industry and technology in unseen – before projects, but this new L’Oreal augmented reality make – up app takes the cake by far! The greatest things about the app? It is free, will have an Android version by 2015 and so far allows you to purchase some L’Oreal products. At the moment there is nothing to compete with it and by the looks of it, L’Oreal will invest a lot to make it even better and smarter.
