STATES CHRONICLE – Stephen Hawking tried to raise awareness by saying our time on Terra is running out. The scientist has argued in his speech that humankind’s time on this planet became to be limited, having only a thousand years left. He has suggested that people should search for another planet which could be similar to Earth and colonize it.
Stephen Hawking has explained that we will not be able to surpass and survive all crises which will affect Earth the next years. The professor has claimed that our planet is more fragile as time passes by and we need to find a replacement for it for our species not to become extinct. He views as a possible solution the colonization of other planets, offering us a chance to survive.
His prediction may at first seem hopeless, but the speech he held at the Oxford University Union shed an optimistic light upon this matter. If we think about his idea, colonization processes will not be impossible in a thousand years from now. Astronomers had already thought of a strategy to colonize Mars. The colonization of the Red Planet could be the first step in accomplishing the plan.
Continuous studies and researches have proved that experts are still searching for exoplanets which could have similar characteristics to our planet. They still need to analyze the exoplanets which were already revealed and find means to reach them and inspect the territory and its features.
He claimed that the most significant challenge for mankind would appear in the next hundred years. Then, there will most likely exist threats concerning nuclear terrorism and the boost of artificial intelligence in such a way that it will compete with humans. Climate change is already a threat to our planet, becoming one of the most alarming concerns.
Hawking asserted that although the chances for a total disaster to happen to us are more unlikely, every slight problem will add up and it will eventually harm the world. He wants to underline the fact that we should be prepared to protect our race if an imminent disaster happens to our planet. That didn’t need to mean the end of humankind.
NASA has already unveiled a lot of exoplanets with the help of Kepler telescopes. Even if only a few are probably habitable, we still need to develop the need technology and new propulsion ways that could help us explore more. We need to be aware that our clock is ticking and our time on Terra will be limited.
