The risks of lung cancer are extremely increased in smokers.

STATES CHRONICLE – Lung cancer awareness should not be left unmarked. Based on data gathered by the American Lung Association, currently, approximately 415,000 of the US citizens are affected by lung cancer. This type of cancer is known to cause a lot more deaths than prostate cancer, breast cancer, and colon cancer. What is more, the shocking part is that numerous cases could have been avoided.

Studies have demonstrated that almost 90% of the lung cancer patients were affected by this disease due to active smoking. However, this does not mean that non-smokers are not affected by this terrible form of cancer. The second leading trigger which leads to this illness is Radon. This is a radioactive gas which is the result of the disintegration of uranium in rocks and soil.

This cause seems to be the primary reason which triggers lung cancer in non-smokers. Apparently, radon is more likely to be found indoors, increasing individuals’ risk of cancer. Among other triggers which lead to this type of cancer, specialists have listed air pollution, family history of members suffering from this disease, radiation of the lungs during therapy and asbestos toxicity.

If you are interested in reducing the risks of getting affected by this dreadful disease, then you should follow some easy steps indicated by experts. One of the best measures you can take is preventing smoking. Also, you should avoid breathing the tobacco smoke of other persons around you. In this way, being a secondhand smoker, you expose yourself to cancer risks.

What is more, giving up smoking before the disease installs in your body, you have better chances to develop repairs to the tissue of your lungs. Thus the risks of cancer will visibly drop. Another way of preventing the illness is to test your house for Radon, verifying if it is present and treated it if necessary. Leading a healthy life, eating a lot of vegetables and fruits, could also help prevent the occurrence of the disease.

The majority of lung cancer patients do not display any symptoms until their body is already severely affected, becoming to spread to be cured. Nevertheless, there still exist some cases in which people which are experiencing symptoms are in the first stages of the illness. Then, the treatment can be effective.
