STATES CHRONICLE – Apple’s iPhone is one of the best smartphones on the market except it lacks water resistance; however, the next iPhone might be waterproof.
With Apple being at the top of the technological market along with competitor like Samsung, Google or Sony, the fact that it didn’t develop a waterproof device is making people wonder. First of all, it is presumed that they have the ‘know-how’. Second of all, the investment would pay-off as many people would be interested in buying the waterproof device. Besides, taking into consideration the prices of their products, consumers expect this feature to be a given.
In the past years, there have appeared many devices that were waterproofed. These were made by other companies, which are considered to be not as good as Apple and which, of course have much lower prices. One example would be the Xperia Z range from Sony.
Recently a patent came to light although it was filed long ago in July last year. The patent is for a rubber port cover which is yielding and can lose and regain shape. In this way, you could plug in your headphone jack and then, after removing your headphones, the gap would become sealed again.
Although there is word that the iPhone 6S could have been waterproof, users will have to wait for the iPhone 7 to enjoy this feature. Some have tried to see how an iPhone behaves after being dunked, but the device is not officially water resistant. Apple has filed other waterproof patents before such as the one involving a hydrophobic coating meant as a protection for the inner circuits if water happens to get inside.
Although the chances for a waterproof iPhone are quite high since Apple is obviously making its move towards this type of protection, we shouldn’t get too excited at least until they make an official announcement. The main reason for not getting excited is that although they have filed the patent, this wasn’t yet approved. Therefore, Apple has to wait to be granted the patent and we have to wait for them to officially announce the launch of iPhone 7 and whether or not the mobile device will be waterproof.
