Passif Chipmaker Company acquired by Apple

Very recently, Apple acquired another company called Passif Semiconductor which specializes in manufacturing low-power chips. The Cupertino acquired company makes low-power wireless components and networking software. The deal was clinched in last few months. However, nobody knows for much the company was acquired.

Apple has been consistently acquring small technology firms and generally they do not disclose the details of acquistions. This was stated by Amy Bessette, a spokesperson from Apple. It is very important to make efficient use of enery for handheld devices like iPhone and iPad. By acquiring Passif which is known for developing low-power CPUs will help in providing efficient power to Apple iDevices.

Recently Apple had annoucned that they are working on wristwatch like gadget and acquistion makes most of the tech analysts feel that the acquistion was mainly done for building the mysterious iWatch.

In 2010, Apple had acquired Intrinsity which was also a chip making company. Apple also desires to replace the Intel brand CPUs from its MAC PCs and use CPU technology that powers iPhone and iPad. The new acquisitions makes tech experts feel that  Apple may be wanting to explore into wireless and communication.

Tim Cook had notified the press that the Cupertino firm is consistently acquiring a company every month or two. Apple was recently in the news for acquiring HopStop and Locationary to improve its mapping software. The Apple Maps which was launched in 2012 had a very poor start and was criticized heavily but by acquiring the aforementioned two companies, Apple aims to provide better service to its customers.

In October, Apple had announced that the company will focus on developing semiconductors. Apple has ambitious plans for it. Apple is always looking to merge or acquire companies that can help the services it offers its customers.

In 2011, Apple had acquired C3 technologies for 3D Mapping placed in Sweden. Annobit was acquired by Apple in December 2011 for flash memory.  Chomp, an app search engine from Israel was brought by Apple. In June 2012, Apple acquired Redmatica an Italian company which specializes in audio technology. In July 2012, Apple acquired AuthenTec which is known for security hardware and software for handheld devices and desktops. In September 2012, it also acquired HTML5 web App Company called Particle.

WiFiiSlam was acquired in March 2013 by Apple for indoor location. Locationary and HotSpot which specializes in making maps was purchased on the same day in July 2013. And the most recent one is the purchase of the semiconductor manufacturing company, Passif Semiconductor.

Many are speculating the acquiring of the semiconductor as a move to speed up the works on the under construction wearable gadget. It is one of the most anticipated gadgets of the year. However, some of Apple’s competitors like Sony have already launched their wearable gadget. Apple had recently filed for the iWatch brand name which indicates that a wearable wristband is expected to be released soon.
