STATES CHRONICLE – It’s been a rumor last month, but now Pepsi Phone P1 officially launched in China and is gathering up funding for those interested in the beverage-branded gadget. It may not be a groundbreaking design with unbelievable specs, but it’s decent performing. And really cheap.
Most wouldn’t associate Pepsi with tech devices, and yet, the rumors were true. At least, it is for China, where the Pepsi Phone P1 has already sold out the limited 1,000 units, and is now on an ongoing campaign. Their goal is meant to be achieved through JD Finance, which is roughly the Chinese equivalent of the more popular crowd funding website Kickstarter.
The aim is to reach approximately $470,000 by December 3rd of this year, though it remains to be seen if it would be completed.
Where specs are regarded, it cannot be said that the Pepsi Phone P1 or Pepsi Phone P1s will shatter records. It has mid-range abilities for a smartphone that will be in theme with the 2016 models. It has a 5.5 inch display, with 1080 pixels, coated with 2.5D glass. On the inside, it has a MediaTek MT6592 1.7GHz octa-core processor, with 2GB RAM, and 16GB internal storage.
The battery is decent enough though, with a 3,000 mAh battery , which could be considered equal to most high-end smartphones released by other companies. Particularly, the ones not generally associated with a fuzzy soft drink. It does come in blue, silver, and gold.
The back camera holds capabilities of 13 megapixels, with a 5 megapixels front camera. It also runs on a version of Android 5.1, customized from Koobee’s operating system. All in all, the moderate performance could be overshadowed by the novelty of the device. It does have Pepsi all over it, starting from the actual design to the wallpaper and available themes.
The Pepsi Phone P1 is 7.7 millimeters in thickness, and weighs 158 grams. And, one of its greatest advantages is that is very, very cheap for its specs. However, the first batch flew off the shelves when it was sold at around $78. What is left right now is the Pepsi Phone P1s variant, which is still available at $110 for early birds.
Eventually, only the $156 will remain available, or the $203 one that includes a selfie stick. It has until the beginning of next month to reach its crowd funding goal, and currently, it’s only 37% of the way there. Pending on their final results, international releases are expected.
