STATES CHRONICLE – Months ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2016, Rinspeed Etos teases first sport driverless concept car. The new prototype is the only self-driving vehicle that can also speed up, the developer has stated.
Rinspeed Etos is one of the most renowned auto makers in Switzerland. The company is specialized in tuning classic vehicles, but since 1991, they have become more interested in developing exotic concept cars. Consequently, Rinspeed is the holder of some of the most futuristic prototypes of cars, including the recent Rinspeed Etos driverless concept car.
The vehicle is supposed to be introduced at the CES 2016 show, but its launch has already been teased with the company disclosing some of the features that the car will have. According to the Swiss auto maker, the Etos model is not only a driverless car, but also a sport vehicle – the only one to be produced at present.
While the new design that the company has put forward is only a suggestion, Rinspeed thinks it is very likely to create a similar car. Etos is comfortable enough to give drivers the safe ride they need, but it can also turn into a speeding beast whenever the driver feels like it. The concept was created for a driverless car, but producers have, nevertheless, maintained the steering wheel in case some users feel more comfortable this way.
Functionality is the word that better sums up Rinspeed’s new concept car. The auto maker has stated that many features will look to spice up drivers’ lives, while still keeping things simple. The best example in this case is the small helipad that has been embedded on the car’s trunk to store a drone.
The producer has further explained that the drone may be programmed to bring the driver the items that he has purchased, such as, for instance, a bottle of wine. In addition, the drone may be programmed to follow the car and take captivating shots as the driver speeds through the traffic.
Customers, who prefer to exercise their driving skills every once in a while, can still do that by simply getting in charge of the steering wheel. To put it in Rinspeed’s words, the concept car is a hybrid which gives drivers the possibility to mix the two driving modes together.
Etos is not the only concept car that Rinspeed has produced. The XchangE model has drawn car lovers’ attention due to its 32-inch 4K monitor. The futuristic vehicle also has reclining seats and an espresso machine for all those times when the driver gets bored in its driverless car.
