The Galaxy Note 3 is finally here, which marks the grand culmination of the almost incessant stream of rumors that the device had generated. What that means is that much of what the device packs in has been in public domain though definitely not all. Samsung must also be credited for being able to keep the Note 3 device itself away from prying eyes which means we got to see the device first during the launch itself. Not that everyone was taken aback by the looks of the device though the Note 3 does pack in a few surprises.
Sporting slightly square looks, the device still is a lot similar to it predecessor though the real surprise lies at the rear. The Note 3 sports a soft touch faux leather covering at the back, complete with faux stitching as well. It’s still made of plastic, something that has earned the company a lot of criticism with rumors already claiming Samsung adopting metal for its future smartphones. The back is removable and the battery is user replaceable.
Coming back to the Note 3, the device sports a 5.7 inch full HD AMOLED display which is 0.2 inch bigger than the Note 2 though the device as a whole is a mm less than the Note 2. This goes to show how narrow a bezel the Note 3 comes with. Powering the device will be either a 2.3 GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon chip (for LTE version) or Samsung’s own 1.9 GHz octa core Exynos 5 Octa CPU (for 3G version). The above will be coupled to a 3 GB RAM while internal memory options will stand at either 32 or 64 GB. Plus there will also be support for micro SD cards which can bump the memory by another 64 GB.
These apart, the Note 3 is also endowed with a 2 and 13 mp camera at the front and rear, with both benefiting from BSI and optical image stabilization technology. Also, the Note 3 will come pre-loaded with Android 4.3 making it among the first to be so. The Note 3 also comes with some unique apps such as Air Command and My Magazine which are on top of all the apps that the Galaxy S4 and Not 2 comes with. Also pre-loaded will be the security software Knox.
Providing the juice will be a 3200mAh battery though actual run times aren’t available as yet. Meanwhile, the Note 3 also comes with the S Pen which Samsung claims to have been improved a lot. However, pricing details are still being withheld, something that will be crucial to the phablet’s success in the world market.
