Rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini being in the making have been doing the rounds for quite some time now. However, it seems we are now heading to a culmination stage given that the device has now make an appearance in the UK edition of Samsung’s app site. It was an accidental flash though, which may have been the handiwork of someone in UK in charge of the app site of the Korean company. Not surprisingly, the S4 mini has since been remove from the listing though it has been there long enough for it to have caught the attention of the hawk eyed guys at Redmond Pie.
The nearest that we have had so far as a confirmation of the existence of just such a device were some blurry images supposedly that of the S4 followed by some clear images of the same when held alongside its big brother, the Galaxy S4. The specs that has emerged points to the S4 Mini having a 4.3 inch display which is 0.6 inch less than the almost 5 inch display that the S4 boasts of. That apart, the S4 Mini will also come with a reduced pixel density of 256 ppi which is quite a few pixels less than the 441 ppi pixel density that the S4 offers.
These apart, there also are a few compromises to be made on the performance front with the S Mini considering its expected to be powered by a 1.6 GHz dual core chip. Compare that to the Exynos 5 Octa 5410 processor that powers the S4 for the international market or a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chip that powers the US build of the Galaxy S4.
The S4 Mini though still has a niche market to cater to considering not everyone is interested in a phone that big as the S4. Then there also are many for whom the plethora of features that the S4 boasts of is not of much use or is too complicated for them to make the best of. They’d rather have a smaller smartphone offering the basic features while also sporting a reduced price tag.
