Sega wants to revive Sonic the Hedgehog in the new title Sonic Mania
Over the past few years, Sega has been trying to bring back Sonic the Hedgehog, but without much success. However, they decided not to give up, so are making another attempt to revive the lovable speedster in a new side-scrolling game called Sonic Mania.
Sega followed Nintendo’s example in bringing back classic characters on the market. However, unlike Nintendo, the company hasn’t been as successful in this attempt so far. Maybe their time has finally come, as they announced the release of a new game in the classic Sonic style, Sonic Mania.
Mixing the old and the new in the upcoming Sonic Mania
The new title will preserve the 2D appearance and features typical of the 90s Sonic games. However, it doesn’t want its players to get bored, so the game will take all the benefits from the modern consoles available and will bring several new options.
Sonic Mania wants to bring both old school players who are already used to the Sonic universe, as well as newcomers, who haven’t tried the vintage side-scrolling so far. Therefore, Sega wants to make everyone happy, so the game will feature a combination of new levels and popular levels from previous titles.
The game will also feature a collector’s edition
These levels bring numerous colorful designs, incredible speed, as a series of antagonists. As you are already used to, the main enemy will be Dr. Eggman, or as you may know him, Dr. Robotnik. All that vintage atmosphere you love is now featured with better graphics for more advanced gaming platforms, as well as some new scenes to make the backstory richer.
Sega scheduled the release of Sonic Mania for August 15th, and it will be available on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. For only $20, you can download it, but Sega promises a special collector’s edition as well, which brings some additional special items, such as a custom box or a Sonic statue.
