Lately we’ve noticed that it takes some time to get up to speed with what Facebook has been up to lately, because it’s been so busy. It has made changes to the Facebook privacy settings and now it will implement a new feature called Nearby Friends. The new Facebook feature will let you see your approximate distance from anyone in your friend list. You can share your location with your friends continuously for a limited amount of time. Let’s take a look at this new feature.
Nearby Friends – The New Facebook Feature
Facebook already knows plenty about you: where you went to school, where you work, what you like and dislike and most importantly, your location. We live in a world where information is power and by those standards, Facebook one is the most powerful entities in the world right now. It’s not enough to Facebook to know where you are located; it wants other people to know that too.
While the idea of looking at your phone and seeing which of your friends is nearby could be awesome, there are plenty of bothersome aspects about this. Thankfully, you can activate and deactivate this feature whenever you please, so there’s no need to worry about your privacy being invaded… too much. Still, this new Facebook feature is taking things one step too far into the wrong direction. Could it be the beginning of the end for Facebook? Are people going to get fed up with being available all the time? Or are they going to cheerfully accept the fact that everyone in their friend list will know where they are at all times?
The new Facebook feature, Nearby Friends will allow you to turn it on for your entire list of friends or limit the people who can see your location. It’s completely customizable and thank God for that!
Once you do that, a list of your closest friends (close in geographical terms) will show up and ranked by how close they are from you. You’ll also be able to see the exact time Facebook registered their location (a bit freaky, isn’t it?). We recommend you spend some time sifting through your friends and making a list of trusted friends with whom to share your location.
What are your thoughts about this new Facebook feature? Are you going to download the new app, Nearby Friends? What are your thoughts on it? Is it too invasive or can you live with it?
