Unbelievable police chase, ends with a never before seen scene. Suspect is run over intentionally by police man wanting to arrest him.
A police officer from Kentucky found that the only solution to capture an armed suspect on the run, was to hit him with the car. The decision made by the police man was highly criticised by people who have once again questioned the actions of the police.
The video footage that was uploaded by the police on the internet has created a frenzy online and thousands of people have been commenting pro and against. People have called the action of the officer outrageous and unseen before, still his decision can be justified given the circumstances.
Some of them have accused the officer for using force in a dangerous manner while others state that he acted right and on tie, as he was dealing with a dangerous man who could have threaten other people.
Michelle Cohen Metzger, the lawyer of the “victim” stated that what the cop did was overboard and had no justification. After she watched the video she realised that wasn’t the correct manner to handle the situation and that her client didn’t represent a threat for anybody but himself.
In the images caught on tape, you can see the suspect, Mario Valencia of 36 years old, being thrown in the air after he gets hit by the police car after which Michael Rapiejko of 34 years old, quickly steps out of the car with his gun pulled out and together with other police officers circle Valencia to make sure he stays down.
Rapiejko’s action, according to the police, has put down a violent criminal who appears to have threaten cops with a stolen hunting gun few minutes before the impact. It seems that the suspect had stolen the hunting rifle from a Wal-Mart after which police reports have stated that he broke into a house, stole a car and tried to burn down a church.
People specialised in police training have stated that the video is proof of how little time the officer had to react in this life and death situation. His decision was fully justified, taking into consideration that they were dealing with a suspect who fired at the police with a gun that has a long range.
Even so, this handling is to advised and recommended and police officers should know that it shouldn’t repeat itself.
Jim Bueermann, an ex police chief, said that the video is indeed outrageous and people who have an outrageous section to it are completely right. He added that this case is not just a video with a police officer acting insane but a proof of how hard it can get to be a police officer.
Rapiejko, was released from duty for three days and now has returned to work. He has been working as a police officer for nine years, in New York and Tucson and has transferred last year in Marana, Arizona.Police officials have stated that he doesn’t have a record of violent or inappropriate behaviour.
