Samsung Tablet Sales Goes Past 10 Million For The First Time in Q3, 2013

November 20, 2013 By Sebastian Mc’Mannen Leave a Comment

Samsung it seems is poised to replicate the kind of success it has met with in the smartphone segment in the tablet segment as well. The latest report from Strategy Analytics that has come up with figures indicating a surge in demand for tablet devices from Samsung is proof enough of this. Global sales figure for the South Korean conglomerate stands at a commendable 10.5 million units in the third quarter, which converts into a market share of 20.2 percent. Both the figures are a first for Samsung in that it has never sold more than 10 million units of its Galaxy range of tablets in a quarter while it market share in the tablet segment has never surpassed 20 percent. The number of units sold in the third quarter surpassed their earlier figures by 2.1 million units. So far as its market share is concerned, the added sales figures have seen a boost by 3.3 percent points.

Cumulative tablet sales figures for Samsung up to the third quarter have been reported to be 28 million units. In 2012, the total sales of tablet PC by Samsung had been 16.6 million units. Analysts believe the company can end up selling twice the number of tablet devices it has sold last year if it is able to maintain the sales rate it has achieved till the third quarter.

The good show no doubt draws comparison from the market leader Apple that has sold 14.1 million iPads in the third quarter. This figure however is a dip for them compared to their second quarter sales figure which was 14.6 million units.

They have also marked a dip in their market share for the third quarter from 29.2 percent in the second quarter to 27.1 percent in the third quarter. In the race, Samsung yet trails Apple but by a mere 6.9 percent now.

With the new iPad Air and iPad Mini with retina display launched and the coming holiday season being just round the corner, it remains to be seen what the final tally is for both Samsung and Apple.

Sony PS 3 Worldwide Sales Figure Crossed 80 Million on Nov 2, 2013

November 7, 2013 By Deborah Cobing Leave a Comment

Sony claims to have sold no less than 80 million units of the PS3 all over the world. Given the number, it is indeed quite an achievement for the device to achieve in its seventh years of existence. The PS3 also crossed the Xbox 360 sales figures in the US last month. The thinner and fresher look of the PS3 even though it meant removal of the PS2 compatibility that the earlier bulky design of the PS3 had, reflects on the acceptability by customers which has been converted to high sales figures. It has reached the 80 million unit mark on 2nd November.

The seven year period is quite a long one in the digital market and most items lose their life in that time period. This has not been true for the PS3 which developers yet hound to create games for. As per Sony there are a record number of 4332 applications that developers have released for the PS3. So far as registered account holders go, the figure reads 150 million the world over, which is all quite mind boggling so far as statistics go.

Come the holiday season, Sony expects more number of new titles to be added to the software’s that is at present running on the PS3. In their expectation the new titles should touch about 300 for the holiday season that is just around the corner.

One aspect to consider is that Sony has announced the launch of the PS4 this month. Yet developers are concentrating on the PS3 which indicates the popularity that this device enjoys from its beginning till now.
