Fuhu Nabi 2 Gets Android 4.1 Update, Includes Google Play Support

December 20, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

Fuhu Nabi 2 is a tablet that has been built with the kids in mind though that does not mean it can’t be used by the grown-ups too. Also, with kids being its target user base, there is always the possibility of mishandling the tablet both physically and by functionality, which should explain the elaborate rubber case covering the edges. That is not all for there also are a large number of functions that allow parental control of its usage by the kids. The tablet is 7 inch by size and very comfortable for browsing, playing games and watching movie on it.

Now, in a move that is aimed at making the tablet all the more appealing to consumers, Fuhu has launched an OTA update that covers one of the biggest disadvantage with the device, its lack of support for the Google Play Store. Users therefore were forced to rely on other third party apps stores or make do with the Fuhu App zone itself which is not as vast as the Google Play Store. With the latest update, users will have a far more extensive choice of apps to choose from besides also introducing other frequently used Google services such as Google Maps, Books and Gmail along with calendar to the device once update is installed.

Otherwise, the tablet is powered by an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad core processor, has a screen resolution of 1024 x 600 with a capacitive display, RAM of 1 GB along with storage space of 8 GB. Fortunately, the latter can be expanded up to 32 GB via the micro SD card slot. The device also sports dual camera while the OS is Android 4.0 Ice cream Sandwich. Connectivity options the tablet offers include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. There is the standard micro USB 2.1 port and the mini HDMI port also.

The tablet carries a price tag of $200 which is same as that of the Galaxy Tab Kid tablet. Best Buy is however selling the tablet at $180 while Amazon list the tablet at $184.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Maintenance Update For Sony Xperia SL, Xperia S and Xperia Acro S

August 27, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

Here is some good news that owners of the Xperia SL, Xperia S and Xperia Acro S can look forward to. It’s all about a new Android Jelly Bean version 4.1 firmware update that Sony has come up with. However, with the above mentioned smartphones already running the particular Android version, the latest update deals with bug fixes as well as performance and maintenance issues.

The latest update brings with it some improved hardware functions which includes long press of the home button in order to launch Google Now. Similarly, a double press will launch the most recent applications. The volume ‘up’ button too will be fully responsive post the update.

Among the other improvements that the update promises to bring along include a more stable connection to 2G data networks, better battery times as well as more efficient heat dispersion. The update also allows for a more accurate depiction of the state of the battery, which is quite handy particularly when the battery is low on juice.

These apart, the update also eases out 1080p video recording and ensures that the third party app preference remain intact even after a reboot. The update also improves the white balance of the camera along with the functionality of the Quick Launch key.

Overall, these changes aren’t something too exciting or life changing, but are still welcome as it addresses a lot of issues that have been bothering users of these smartphones. The update is being made available over the air but specific release dates over a particular region could depend on the concerned network operator.

Meanwhile, an update to the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean no doubt would have been far more exciting. Sony though has ruled out the update at least for the time being though an earlier leak has mentioned the said update is being worked out for the Xperia  S and Xperia SL.
