Sony Xperia Tablet Z WiFi Gets Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Update

September 3, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

Sony has announced Android 4.2.2 update for the Xperia Tablet Z which it claims will bring about some significant changes to the tablet device. The update though is only applicable to the Wi-Fi version of the tablet. The update will also be important for the prospects of the tablet that already can be counted among the best out there. Launched in early 2013, the tablet started out with Android 4.1. That will be bumped up to Android Jelly Bean version 4.2.2 while the system build version will be 10.3.1.A.0.244 post the update that itself is considered quite hefty at 786 mb.

Among the changes that the update is set to introduce include changes to the user interface. The notification bar will be shifted to the top of the display from the current bottom slot. This will be more akin to what users get to have on android smartphones. The three notification buttons that have so far been sitting along the sides will now be aligned more towards the center. These changes will make the user interface in line with what most tablets running Android 4.2.2 have to offer.

Among the other features that the update brings along include multi user feature, new widget functions of home screen and lock screen, a navigation bar that is customizable, support for microSD card of up to 64 GB and lot’s more.

The official notifications are now being sent though those who are yet to come across any can check for the update manually. For that, one has to go to Settings Menu and to Systems Update to check for the upgrade.

As for the device itself, the Xperia Tablet Z is already among the better Android tablets in the market if not the best. The tablet comes with a 10.1 inch full HD display and is powered by a 1.5 GHz quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro chip coupled to a 2 GB RAM. The device is extremely handy and convenient to use, what with it being among the slimmest tablets currently available.

Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Update For Galaxy S3, Note 2 Cancelled for Android 4.3

August 26, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

Samsung has cancelled the roll out of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS update for its Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 devices. The South Korean giant is learned to be waiting for the next update of the operating system by Google for the two devices.

GottaBeMobile.com writes the Australian carrier Telstra has intimated users of both the devices the latest OS update has been withdrawn and awaited for the next new version – Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

Samsung Withdraws Android 4.2.2 Update For Galaxy S3, Note 2

German carrier Telekom also informed its customers about the same.

Samsung has not confirmed anything about the next software upgrade for Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2. GottaBeMobile.com stated, “Samsung had delayed the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.2 updates again and because of that, it would likely be moving on to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean instead.”

One report recently claimed the OS update for these two flagship devices of Samsung will be delayed as there are some issues with the new TouchWiz. Meanwhile, the official website of Telstra writes, “Samsung have elected globally to skip the 4.2.2 update for this device and will instead go to a newer version of Android. No schedule has been provided for this update.”

SamMobile writes the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Wi-Fi has received the update in United Kingdom and it is made available through an Over-the-Air update as well as Samsung Kies. Earlier the device was equipped with Android 4.1 OS. Once again the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 have been beaten by a less adopted device in matters of OS update. Owners of the two devices are a little frustrated. As of now both the devices are running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS.

HTC One Developer Edition Android 4.2.2 Jely Bean Update Skipped for Android 4.3

August 26, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

The HTC One Developer Edition will be updated straight to Android 4.3 jelly bean from the current Android 4.1 that it runs. The revelation to this effect has been made by the President for Global Sales at HTC, Mr. Jason Mackenzie. This is unlike the strategy adopted by HTC with the standard HTC One device which was provided with the Android 4.2.2 update and is pending the jump to the latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The reason that Mackenzie cited for the above move is that Android 4.3 is closer and that Android 4.2.2 offered limited customer benefits.

However, the HTC executive failed to commit to a firm release date and the best that he could offer is an expected release period before the end of September. Mackenzie has also stated they are looking to upgrade all versions of the HTC One sold in the US to Android 4.3 before September end. Mackenzie though has a word of caution stating the launch dates could change due to unforeseen reasons. Meanwhile, those opting to buy the Verizon version of the HTC flagship smartphone though can consider lucky in that the carrier will be offering the device running Android 4.2.2. All HTC One now on sale in the US via various carriers now run Android 4.2.1.

The HTC One Developer Edition shares the same basic tech layout as the standard smartphone version except that the former comes with an unlocked bootloader along with 64 GB of internal storage. The handset is sold in the US be HTC itself and is available in SIM free state. It is primarily aimed at the developer community who wish to develop custom ROMs for the device. The price though is a hefty $649.99.

AT&T to Release Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and Sense 5 Update for HTC One X+ Soon

August 24, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

The Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean as well as the Sense 5 update for the HTC One X+ has been in the offing for some time now and its seems the same for the AT&T version of the device could become a reality anytime soon.

Unfortunately, no one knows for sure just how soon except @LlabTooFeR that has been entertaining us with leaks and behind the scene stories, some often fairly accurate. @LlabTooFeR is claiming the update could get to see the light of day within just weeks though their proclamation stopped short of a firm release date or even a probable time frame. No doubt, the said update will bring a fresh lease of life to the yesteryear HTC flagship device.

Meanwhile, things are a lot better for users of the One X+ smartphone in Asia where the Android 2.2 and Sense 5 UI update has already been made available. However, the above is applicable to only the unlocked versions of the smartphone though the carriers versions too will be getting the update soon enough. The update will also be made available in Europe with French carrier SFR already having dropped enough hints of releasing the update soon.

The update brings along a host of features to the 2012 HTC flagship device, which includes the company’s news feed service Blinkfeed in the home screen. There will also be video highlights showsn automatically while the music app too will be updated. These comes on top of the usual Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean goodies which includes Daydreams, locked widgets, battery meter in the status bar along with new enhanced quick settings panel to name just a few.

Launched in 2012, the HTC One X+ used to be the Taiwanese company’s flagship device and came powered by a 1.5 GHz Quad core Nvidia Tegra 3 chip mated to a 1 GB RAM. The smartphone started out with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and came in 16 and 32 GB internal memory options. The device includes a 4.7 inches display having a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. That many pixels made for a quite healthy pixel density of 312 per inch.
