It hasn’t been long since Microsoft announced that they will purchase the mobile division of Nokia. Microsoft even launched its first Lumia smartphone using the Microsoft name. The latest news comes from the Nokia side of the business as it announces their new smart mobile device called Nokia N1 Android tablet.

The new Nokia N1 Android tablet was presented at a conference in Finland called Slush and it comes with some really cool features. The N1 runs on an Android OS, it’s made of aluminum, has a 7.9 inch laminated display and 64-bit quad core Intel Atom z358 processor. Nokia N1 Android tablet also comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. It has an 8MP back camera and a 5MP front camera; the battery has 5,300mAh.

Nokia N1 Android tablet has rounded edges which make the N1 look a bit like Apple’s iPad. The tablet is pretty thin at 6.9 mm and it comes available in Lava Gray and Natural Aluminum.
On the software side of things, the new Nokia N1 Android tablet runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop and it comes customized the Z Launcher. The Launcher was released in June and many were pleasantly surprised with it. The Nokia Launcher allows its users to quickly launch apps or contacts onto the main screen of the tablet. It can also be used to search the web faster.

The new Nokia N1 Android tablet costs $250 and it will be first launched in China starting next year in February. Nokia said that the new tablet will be in stores just in time for the Chinese New Year, which is on February 19. After that, Nokia plans to release the N1 tablet in Russia and other European countries, where Nokia used to be very influent as a phone manufacturer before the Microsoft deal. Nokia hasn’t said anything about US release.

Nokia said that the company will not return to manufacturing smartphones, although the Microsoft contract allows it to make and sell smartphone starting with 2016. Nokia said that the company wants to license its brand to companies that want and can sell devices under the Noka brand name.

Kindle Fire Voted Best Android Tablet For Playing Games

December 11, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

The result of a survey carried out by IDC and App Annie has come up with some surprising result. The survey related to the people’s choice of the tablet they would prefer for playing games. Also, the survey concerned Android running tablets only. While the Apple iOS platform is the preferred platform among gamers, what the survey has revealed is that Android devices too are fast catching up in this aspect. However, what has come as even more surprising is that it is the Kindle Fire that has been voted to be the most popular device for playing games. Surprising since the Kindle Fire which its makers promote as a device primarily for reading ebooks among other things has beaten dedicated gaming devices such as the Nintendo 3DS on its march to the top slot.

Kindle Fire

So what is the best tablet for gaming? That’s subjective, of course, but a new study shows it may not be the device you think. While most still turn to iOS for gaming, the Android realm is catching up quickly. While we focus on tablets like the Nexus 7, we’re way off base. In fact, we’re not even acknowledging the people’s choice.

The survey also indicates that between tablets and smartphones, people prefer the smartphone for playing games. So the Kindle lost out when it came to a match against the smartphone users for playing games. If the PS Vita is also taken into the study, Android smartphones would yet win hands down which goes to show the extent of the coverage and usage of Android smartphones in the market today. There is the other aspect of dimension where the smartphones now coming in such size that tablets are losing out on that count too. The above applies to the 7 inch tablet that has been reeling under pressure from the phablet or big screen smartphone segment.

The Android market is catching up so far as gamers choice goes which till now has been quite iOS centric. There is the App Store which provides developers a good ground for distributing their games which does have a measurable effect on users’ choice of the physical gadget. It was also noted that iPod had received many votes in the survey which means the simple games are also something that many people like to play.

Dell is Targeting the Budget Android Tablet Segment With its Venue 7 And Venue 8 Devices

October 21, 2013 By Georgia Dawson Leave a Comment

To add competition and alternatives available to consumers in the tablet sector, Dell has pitched its bit with their Venue 7 and Venue 8 tablet devices. Both the tablets have been priced competitively, it being $149 for the Venue 7 and $179 for the Venue 8. This no doubt makes for a compelling choice for those searching for a replacement for their existing Android tablets. The Dell tablets would be running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box but will be upgradeable to Android 4.3 when the same is made available by Dell. What makes the Dell tablet offering unique is that both are built around Intel Atom chips.

Coming to specific details, the Venue 7 comes with a 1280 x 800 pixel screen of 7 inch dimension. The display is based on IPs technology that allows for better viewing angles. For its processing power the tablet is powered by an Intel Atom Z2560 Clover Trail+ processor clocking at 1.6 GHz. The onboard memory is 2 GB and storage capacity is 16 GB. It comes with an expandable microSD card slot of 32 GB. The tablet also has two cameras with the rear one of 3 MP while the front is just a VGA unit. It can take on connectivity to other devices via its micro USB port.

With a similar screen resolution, comes the Venue 8 though the display is stretched out to 8 inches. The price tag is $30 more than the Venue 7, which is justified by the inclusion of a faster processor that is rated at 2 GHz. That is not all as the Venus 8 also offers a better camera setup, equipped as it is with 5 MP and 2 MP camera respectively. The Venue 8 also has a higher internal memory storage capacity of 32 GB.

For wireless connectivity the tablets support Wi-Fi up to Wireless N. It also sports Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. PC Mag had predicted the tablets to come with HSPA+ Modem which has been noted to be missing. This must be as the tablets are not meant for high end use and rather for browsing and social media enthusiast, who would not require such high end applications requiring HSPA+ modems for internet speed.
