iPhone 5S vs iPhone 5C vs iPhone 5 – Comparing the Apple Smartphones

September 22, 2013 By Troy Rubenson Leave a Comment

iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C was announced on Sept 10. The two new iPhones are going to arrive in few days for sale. Finally, the rumors surrounding the predecessor model for iPhone 5 has stopped. Apple does not plan to manufacture iPhone 5 from on. The iPhone 5C will replace the iPhone 5 and also the handset slots itself as a mid-range device.  Here we are going to compare the premium iPhone 5S with iPhone 5C and the discontinued iPhone 5

Display
iPhone 5S comes with a 4inch display with Retina Display technology. It produces a display resolution of 640 x 1136pixels with a pixel density of 326ppi. Well, the iPhone 5C and the discontinued iPhone 5 has got the same display specification.

Processor
The Apple iPhone 5S is powered with a brand new 64bit A7 dual-core CPU which is capable of producing 1.5GHz of clocking speed. However, the iPhone 5C and the iPhone 5C are running on A6 processor. It is believed that the new A7 processor is twice faster than the older A6. Also, the iPhone 5S has got a dedicated M7 motion co-processor that makes the handset to sense user actions like walking and running. This feature is not available on iPhone 5C and the older iPhone 5.

Camera

Apple has added a much improved camera on the iPhone 5S. It has got an 8MP camera onboard with a sensor that is 15 percent larger than the one present on iPhone 5. The aperture of the lens is f/2.2. The lens aperture on iPhone 5C and iPhone 5 is f/2.4. So, the iPhone 5S is much better for taking shots in low lighting conditions. Another new feature on the iPhone 5S is that the camera is coupled with a True Tone dual-LED flash. The new LED flash is able to enhance the color balancing of the photographs. This kind of dual LED flash is not available on the mid-range iPhone 5C and iPhone 5.

Special Feature

The iPhone 5S is blessed with a special feature called Touch ID fingerprint sensor which is absent on iPhone 5C and iPhone 5. The fingerprint scanner is kept hidden under the home button which sits below the displays screen at the front. The button is decked with sapphire crystal.

Apart from the looks, what is so cool about this button is that for authentication purpose on iTunes Store or App Store, users are not required to type in their login credentials anymore. Through the fingerprint of the user, authentication can be done. So, this is how Apple is upgraded security on the new iPhone 5S. The iPhone 5C and the iPhone 5 do not have the fingerprint sensor.

Color
The iPhone 5S is available in three colors like gold, silver and grey. The iPhone 5C is available in white, pink, blue, yellow, and green. The older iPhone 5 was available only in white and black editions.

Storage
The iPhone 5S is available in storage variants like 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. The much expected 128GB storage variant is missing. The iPhone 5C and the iPhone 5 are both available in storage variants like 16GB and 32GB.

Operating system
Both the newly released iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C are running on the iOS7 which is yet to release officially. The older iPhone 5 was powered with iOS6.

Price

iPhone 5S price is available on contract for $199, $299, and $399 for 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB variants respectively. Without contract, the iPhone 5S available for $649, $749, and $849. The iPhone 5C is available on contract for $99 and $199 for 16GB and 32GB variants respectively. Without contract, you can get the iPhone 5C for $549 and $649. The iPhone 5 has been discontinued.

Verdict
If you are looking for an iPhone that is much improved than before with a premium appeal, you should go for iPhone 5S. The iPhone 5C is suitable for someone who is not able to afford high-end phones. By the way, the specs of the iPhone 5C and the discontinued iPhone 5 are quite same. If you are using an iPhone 5, carefully go through the specs of iPhone 5C and then only think of upgrading to iPhone 5C. Otherwise, it would be better to go for iPhone 5S.

iPhone 5 Price Drops Amidst Increased Competition of Android Devices

June 18, 2013 By Deborah Cobing Leave a Comment

The price of the iPhone is taking a dip; given the availability of numerous other Android based phones that are coming into the market. Retailers have started to give away the iPhone 5 in an unlocked state with its price made more palatable to allow for a greater uptake. For those who are interested in the iPhone5 and live in areas that come under the umbrella of Apple.com, they can have the 16 GB version of the smartphone for $649.

The iPhone 5 with 16 GB memory is also available at eBay for $599. There is however some caution to be exercised when dealing with vendors on eBay. Their authenticity needs to be verified before committing to the transaction. There are other retailers not in the Apple.com circle that are offering the set at $550 or even less than that.

There are the network service providers also who are selling the iPhone5 at costs lower than before. Google Shopping service is another site where the gadget is available, once again at a bargain price. For those who like to buy a used iPhone 5 too there is the possibility of getting such a bargain deal. The cheaper iPhone 5 sets that are available in brand new condition at the retailers or network service provider’s sites needs to be checked for usability in the particular region of the customer as Negri Electronics have reported that the iPhone from T-Mobile site are only for international use.

What is unique in the iPhone 5 has been its lighting dock port that allows for charging and synching. The device with a 4 inch display is powered by a dual core processor. It has a back facing camera of 8 megapixel as well as a front facing Facetime camera for video chats.

The iPhone 5S is what Apple is expected to add to its line of products by this year end. The iPhone 5S ill have iOS 7, a new processor along with perhaps several color options to choose from.

Galaxy S4 Sales Cross 10 Millions in First Month but Still behind Apple iPhone

May 29, 2013 By Troy Rubenson Leave a Comment

The Korean based Samsung Electronics have made it public that in the first month of release of flagship Galaxy S4, the device managed to achieve 10 million sales. The Galaxy S4 made global debut on 27th April and it is being purchased at the rate of four handsets each second.

Experts feel that HTC One is quite good and on some aspects it is on par with Samsung Galaxy S4. However, even though HTC One released around two weeks before the Galaxy S4, the sales of HTC One is considerably less than Galaxy S4. The main reason behind it is that Samsung has invested heavily in advertising its flagship device. Now, it has reached such a point that even if it does not advertise its Galaxy S line of devices, the products will be able to achieve impressive results.

Apple’s iPhones are still the most preferred smartphone brands in US. The sales of Galaxy S products are less than that of iPhones. Achieving 10 million sales in just one month is quite an achievement for Samsung. The predecessor phone, the Galaxy S3 was able to achieve the same mark in 50 days. It took around five months for Galaxy S2 to reach 10 million sales. The same result was achieved by Galaxy S in seven months.

On the other hand, 5 million units of iPhone 5 was sold in the first week and by first quarter, it managed to achieve 47 million sales. At present, the Galaxy S4 is being sold in 110 countries and in the near future it will be made available to 155 countries.

In some countries, the Galaxy S4 is powered with Samsung Exynos 5 Octa CPU and in other countries it is powered with Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 CPU. The Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with a 5inch Super AMOLED display which supports 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution with 441ppi. It has got 2GB RAM and is available three storage variants such as 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. It has also external memory slot.

The Galaxy S4 houses a staggering 13MP camera at the rear and the front facing camera is of 2MP. Both the cameras are capable of recording HD videos of 1080p. As far as connectivity is concerned, it provides you with Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and MHL 2.0. It is packed with 2100mAh battery. It runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Ben OS and we feel the phone will be soon updated to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. You can browse high speed internet on through its 4G LTE connectivity.

Samsung is releasing various versions of the Galaxy 4 such as the ruggedized Galaxy S4 Activ and Galaxy S4 Mini. Also, there are rumors that the S4 is going to be available in different colors such as blue, red, purple and brown. Currently, the S4 is available in white and black colors only. The only competitor for Samsung is Apple. Very soon Samsung plans to launch various new products including ATIV products which include desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones powered with Windows Phone OS. If Apple does not manage to provide something unique in its forthcoming iterations, Samsung can easily surpass Apple in the near future.
