What Happened at the Microsoft Developers Conference?

April 7, 2014 By Janet Vasquez Leave a Comment

Microsoft Developers ConferenceLast week, Microsoft was a busy bee, as it had its annual Microsoft Developers Conference where it announced Microsoft Office for iPad, it unveiled some spanking new phones and even a peculiar, yet promising intelligent personal assistant, named Cortana, for its mobile OS. Sounds pretty exciting, doesn’t it? Well, to be honest, the conference failed to keep us on the edge of our seats. Read on and we’ll tell you why that was.

Microsoft Developers Conference – The Gist of It

Windows Phone 8.1.

To be honest, Microsoft couldn’t find a more uninspiring name for its phone. We get why they chose it, because of the new Windows 8.1 operating system, but that doesn’t mean we have to like it. The biggest improvement, or new feature, let’s call it, was Cortana, an intelligent personal assistant, a combination of Apple’s Siri and Google Now. You need to make a Microsoft account to activate it. Smart move, Microsoft!

Nokia’s Three Phones

Nokia released three new Windows phones at the Microsoft Developers Conference: the Lumia 930, the Lumia 630 and the Lumia 635. The 930 is Nokia’s flagship phone that is not really meant for the US market, so if you’re living in the US, you’re not going to see this one with any carriers. The 630 is the first Lumia with a dual-SIM, but it does come with only one SIM, it’s an option. Lastly, the 635 is a good and reliable, 4G capable and decent-priced Nokia Lumia Smartphone. Aside from Cortana, there is nothing spectacular about these three Windows phones.

To be honest, many people were not impressed, as Microsoft is miles behind in the tablet and phone market. What are your thoughts on the Microsoft Developers Conference? Are you impressed by any new updates from Microsoft? Were you expecting to see much more? Share your thoughts with us in the comment section below.

iPad 5, iPad Mini 2 Release Date on Oct 15 by Apple?

September 19, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

If rumors currently doing the rounds are to be believed, Apple has lined up an event on the 15th of October. The Cupertino based company is expected to launch its new generation iPad devices this fall and the October 15 period could mark the release date of iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2.

Of course Apple hasn’t endorsed any of this so far. Further, that this bit of news has to be taken with a pinch of salt is evident from the fact that it has its origins in the French site Mac Generation that has to its credit both hits and misses in equal measure when it comes to Apple predictions.

Apple

Apple so far has not confirmed when it is going to launch its next gen iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 devices, except that those can be expected towards fall. In fact, Apple hasn’t even confirmed if there will indeed be a new iPad Mini 2 up for launch this fall though an iPad 5 is almost a surety. Another area of uncertainty surrounding the new iPad Mini is whether it will include a retina display if it is launched this year.

Apple has just launched the new iPhone 5 devices, the 5s and 5c though another event planned just about a month later can’t be ruled out. The company has followed a somewhat similar itinerary last year when it had launched the iPhone 5 in September followed by a more elaborate launch event that yielded the new iPad, and Mac devices along with of course the new iPad Mini for the first time. Apple is also scheduled to launch the new OS X Maverick this year and it could well be included in the Oct 15 event as well.

However, in the end, let’s not forget all of this is still in the rumor stages and nothing stands confirmed regarding the iPad 5 release date.
