New Jolla Tablet Set To Be Released in May 2015

November 19, 2014 By Troy Rubenson Leave a Comment

Yesterday Nokia announced their first tablet after the deal with Microsoft. The Nokia N1 was announced in Finland at the 2014 Slush tech event. That wasn’t the only piece of important news concerning new mobile devices. The tech aficionados were very excited to hear that a new Jolla tablet is on its way.

Jolla announced their new tablet through a crowdunding campaign and they set it will be released in May 2015. The announcement comes a year after a group of technicians working for Nokia founded their own company in 2011, after leaving Nokia, of course. Jolla released its first smartphone a couple of years back and now they are trying to enter the tablet market with the Jolla tablet.

The company officials said that the Jolla tablet will run on their own operating system called Sailfish. The version that will be on the tablet is the upgraded 2.0 version.
Mark Dillon, the COO of Jolla said in his speech at the Slush conference that the upcoming Jolla tablet will run on the latest Sailfish OS which he said is all about privacy, security and multitasking. The new OS will show all the running apps in a single view and the apps can be controlled using the multitasking view, without needing to open the app in full. The new Sailfish OS offers a new feature called “ambiances”, which enables the user to personalize the home screen, depending on the user’s moods.

On the hardware side, the Jolla Tablet comes with a 7.85 inch display of 2048×1536 (330ppi). This is actually a very good resolution, matching the iPad Mini 3’s. The Jolla tablet comes with 32GB of internal storage, which can be expanded using the microSD slot card. The battery is a 4300mAh one and the processor is a 64 bit Intel 1.8GHz quad core. The Jolla tablet comes with 2GB of RAM.

The upcoming Jolla tablet weighs 384 grams, 203x137x8.3mm, which makes it not as compact as the iPad Mini 3. It does however have a similar 5MP back camera and a 2MP front camera.
The Jolla tablet’s retail price is $249 and it will be available in the US, Norway, Russia, India, Hong Kong and Switzerland.

Apple Reveals New iPad Mini 3, 27-Inch iMac With 5K Display and Apple Pay

October 17, 2014 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

Apple has announced more countries that will get the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, this week and yesterday it revealed more additions to its growing family of devices. During the Media Event Apple has revealed the new iPad Mini 3, the 27-inch iMac with 5K display and Apple Pay. Let’s take a quick look at these devices and see what the fuss is all about.

iPad Mini 3

iPad Mini 3 got its own fingerprint reader, the Touch ID! It was about time Touch ID came to the iPads, don’t you think? The new iPad Mini 3 also comes in the color gold, which was pretty much expected. Other than that, there isn’t much to say about it. Granted, it’s got a better wireless, but the display is the same as it is on the iPad Mini 2 (which is now the official name for the iPad Mini with Retina Display) and so is the A7 chip.

27-Inch iMac With 5K Display

The most stunning reveal was definitely the 27-inch iMac with 5k display. The display is one of the most stunning displays ever created. It has a resolution of 5,120 x 2,880 with 14.7 million pixels, four times more than what the standard iMac has. You also get a 3.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 for the standard model, as well as 8GB of memory and a 1TB Fusion Drive. All this greatness for a great price: $2,499 (for the standard iMac)!

Apple Pay

We’ve talked about Apple Pay before, but now we’ve got a date for it! October 20 is when it is going to become available, along with the update for the iOS 8.1. Apple Pay allows its users to make payments with their smartphones. You don’t even have to open an app to make a payment, you simply present your iPhone, authenticate the payment with your finger and then you get a gentle vibration that tells you the payment was approved. Pretty smart, don’t you think?

Keep your eyes peeled, because we’ve got more! Two more devices will be presented in a new article here on States Chronicle, the new iPad Air 2, Mac Mini and the update to OS X Yosemite!

Meet the New iPad at the Oct 16 Apple Media Event

October 9, 2014 By Deborah Cobing Leave a Comment

Apple has just announced the date for their media event that will present the new iPad Air and it’s October 16. Many rumors have been saying that the new iPad mini will not be launched at the same time with the new iPad Air. If that is the case, we’ll just have to wait and see.

What to Expect from the Oct 16 Apple Media Event?

The new iPad Air 2 is going to be launched at the Oct 16 Apple media event for which Apple has already sent out invitations. The invitations feature information about when (October 16, 10 a.m.) and where (Apple headquarters, Cupertino, California). The invitations also have two colorful lines on a white background and the tagline: It’s been way too long.

These lines are important hints about the new line of iPads, as rumors have been circulating that Apple will be adding the color gold for their iPads. Well, after seeing the invitations, we’re more than certain that the new iPads are going to come in way more colors that just white, grey and gold.

What could that tagline mean? Do you think Apple is referring to the fact that it’s been a year already since their iPads have been on the market? We think not. We truly believe that Apple has something exciting up their sleeve, or at least, that’s what we’re hoping.

Could we even see a new iPad Mini in spite of rumors that are saying the launch is going to be postponed for 2015? To be honest, we think that Apple is going to launch both iPads, the iPad Air 2 and the iPad Mini 3.

Apple is also going to do a system update for their line of Mac computers and maybe even introduce a new digital payment service that many believe it’s going to be called Apple Pay.

Are you going to watch the Oct 16 Apple media event live? Will you get the new iPad Air 2? Drop us a line in the comment section below and tell us about it.
