LG G3 Review – An Impressive Phone

May 28, 2014 By Deborah Cobing

LG G 3 reviewIt seems that we were right! Back at the beginning of May we predicted that the new LG G3 smartphone would launch on May 27 or 28. The phone was launched on May 27 and now, a day later we’ve gotten our hands on it and we’re ready to make a quick LG G3 review. Read on and enjoy.

LG G3 Review

The LG G3 will be available for the public in June, so until then we recommend you read our LG G3 review to see if this new gem from LG is the right smartphone for you.

The phone weighs 149 grams (5.26 oz) and has the following dimensions: 146x74x8.9 mm (5.76×2.94×0.35 in) and a true HD-IPS and LCD touchscreen, capable of showing 16M colors. What LG did great on the new LG G3 smartphone is that it gave it a 534 PPI pixel density (2560×1440 pixels) which really makes a difference. The LG G3 has a stunning 5.5 inch, gorilla Glass 3 display that will really impress even the pickiest smartphone users.

Our LG G3 review must include what’s under the hood, because that’s also quite good, up to par, so to speak.

It has an internal memory of 16GB with 2GB of RAM or a 32GB and 3GB of RAM with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and a v4.0 Bluetooth, an infrared port and a microUSB v2.0 port. It runs Android version 4.4.2 (KitKat) and has a Snapdragon 801 chipset with a Quad-core 2.5 GHz processor. The battery is a standard Li-Ion 3000 mAh.

It comes in metallic black, silk white, shine gold, moon violet and burgundy red.

LG has done some tweaks that run pretty well on the LG G3 smartphone, giving you the information you need when you want it. For example, the weather will show you when it’s windy and whether you will need an umbrella or not, it’s not going to just give you a temperature.

Another cool feature is when you send someone a message in which you tell them you will call them back and then you don’t, the phone will notify you that you should text them back. Pretty awesome, right?

Our verdict is that it is a good phone. It is worth its money and it will satisfy the average smartphone users. The screen is great, the design is highly improved and the smartphone itself is powerful and strong. The photos it takes are quite good and the macro feature on it is stunning. Will it be a hit with LG? Honestly, we think it’s too early to say.

January 4, 2014 By Janet Vasquez Leave a Comment

There would be some new and innovative devices from LG at the CES event to be held shortly. Among the device to be showcased include a new Ultrabook along with two Tab Books that would be updated version of their existing versions.

lg-tab-book

The new Ultrabook would have the label of Ultra PC and would be Windows based. It would be weighing 2.2 pounds and have a screen size of 13 inch. The updated tab books would be named Tab Book 2 and have a slide out keyboard that can be launched by the touch of a button. A likeable feature it sure is though what the feature however does is that the tablet ends up to be 0.7 inches by thickness which is slightly more than just a pure tablet. They would have a screen size of 11.6 inch which would be touch capable. It would also be Windows 8 based device.

The other model that LG would be showcasing at the CES is the 11T740 model that has a full HD display with 40 nit brightness. The tablet would be powered by an Intel Core i5 Haswell CPU that has already earned kudos for being soft on the battery. Over all weight of the device would be 2.3 pounds while it would be 0.65 inches in thickness.

The other Tab Book 2 with the model name of 11T540 has not been announced by LG to any detail. The only aspects known about the tab book are its weight of 2.1 pounds and the thickness being 0.54 inches. This in all probability would be the low end tab book from LG while the ttT740 would be the high end model.

The Ultra PC model from LG would have the model number of 13Z940. It would be powered by an Intel Core i5 Haswell processor. It would have a hard disk of 256 GB. The screen size would be 13.3 inches and be HD capable with IPS technology. The bezel of the set would be just 0.17 inch. By weight it would be 2.2 pounds also and the thickness would be 0.54 inches.

LG G2 Mini in the Works

December 24, 2013 By Troy Rubenson 1 Comment

The general trend among smartphone manufacturers is to launch their flagship model of the device packed with all the bells and whistles that one can think of, thereby creating a lot of hype in the process. Once the bait is taken by the market at large they would come out with the smaller version of the device. The smaller versions not only sport reduced dimension but also call for compromises to be made with the features that they come to offer. They would therefore come to be cheaper by price than the flagship model and also be lower in the performance department too.

LG G2 Mini

This process appears to be occurring for the LG G2 smartphone right now. The device which had been released amidst huge fan fare a few months back has been rumored to have a smaller sibling being released shortly. Visitors at the CES 2014 event would surely view the LG G2 Mini on display there. Information about the smaller version has been noted on the net although LG has not come out with it officially. An LG device with model number LG-D410 was spotted at the GFX Benchmark site and that has been presumed to be the LG Mini.

What can be noted about the specifications of the LG G2 Mini is its processor being a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip clocking at 1.2 GHz. The screen resolution is 540 x 960 pixel though the OS will be  Android Kikat 4.4 KitKat.

More details would only be received when the device is officially launched possibly at the CES 2014 to be held at Las Vegas in the coming month.

LG G Flex: Specifications Discussed, To Be Launched in Korea Soon

October 28, 2013 By Sebastian Mc’Mannen Leave a Comment

There has been a lot of buzz that has been going on regarding the differently designed smartphones that the two South Korean conglomerates, LG and Samsung have come up with. Naturally, the curved smartphones from the two companies presents a fresh new perspective to the very concept of smartphones and there has been no dearth of curious enthusiasts who wish to know more about these devices. Thankfully for those, LG has officially come out with the full specifications of their smartphone with a curved screen.

lg-g-flex

For the hardware part, it would come with a Snapdragon 800 processor, 2 GB of RAM and a camera of 13 MP. The overall weight of the device would be 177 grams and a display measuring 6 inch. The screen which is where the interest lies and would be curved in this case would be of 720p resolution and based on OLED technology. The curve in this device would run from top to down and not sideways which would have made it more a round shape like what the Samsung model is being talked about.

The other interesting features of the phone are its audio recording capability in hi-fi mode. The device would also be able to run and display two applications simultaneously on its screen. There is also a tap to wake feature on the device. The rear casing of the device is made up of a material that has the ability to clear up small scratches on its body. The battery of the device is of 3,500 mAh though actual run times aren’t available as yet.

Availability of the device in Korean market has been officially announced too as next month though the global launch dates are yet to be confirmed by the company. Both Samsung and LG are aware that this unique design has not been tested upon the people at large and the launch in Korea will let them have an idea of how consumers react to such a design philosophy.

What people should expect from this new design in the words of L G is “better ergonomics when making phone calls and will allow for a more immersive video experience.”

verizon_g2

Next up, it will be Verizon offering the G2, with sales kicking off on September 12. It will also be following a similar pricing structure, which involves paying $199.99 upfront apart from agreeing to a two year warranty. Also, it is only the Verizon version of the G2 that boasts of wireless charging. Verizon has also been in the news for being the last to offer the HTC One in the US. Fortunately, the carrier is prompt this time and is offering the G2 while its still fresh in the market.

Lastly, T-Mobile is slated to offer the G2 starting September 18 from its website while the retail debut will take place on September 25. T-Mobile is also offering the cheapest deal as part of its Simple Choice Plan, requiring the buyer to shell out $99 upfront though users will also be obliged to pay $21 in 24 monthly installments.

As for the device itself, the G2 is already pegged to be among the hottest smartphone device one can buy right now. It’s a powerhouse of a device, thanks to the Snapdragon 800 chip it hides inside. There is also a 2 GB RAM together with an Andreno chipset to be credited for the zippy performance. The G2 also scores on its photographic abilities, with both the 2.2 mp and 13.1 mo camera at the front and rear being capable of recording 1080p quality video.

LG G2 Set For US Debut This Month

September 3, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson 1 Comment

The recently launched LG G2 smartphone is all set to break into the US markets this month itself, revealed company sources. Unfortunately, that is all that the company has stated, leaving us wondering what the latest LG flagship will cost or when exactly the device will be getting to see the day of light on American soil. The wait or the suspense could be worth it, for what you will get to have on the other side of it is a device that has already earned the tagline of being the world’s fastest so far. Coupled to the slick functioning is a sparkling 5.2 inch full HD IPS display that looks so very inviting. The extremely thin bezel on its parts along with the overall excellent build quality too adds to the overall appeal of the device.

LG G2

Apart from the 5.2 inch display, other salient feature of the current LG flagship device include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 which together with the Adreno 330 QSXGA/2160p graphics card and a 2 GB RAM ensures the device is able to ward off anything that is thrown at it with elan. The smartphone comes with 32 GB of internal memory of which about 24 GB will be available to the user. However, the lack of an external memory card slot does act as a dampener.

For the photographers out there, the LG G2 also packs in a 13 mp auto focusing camera at the rear complete with an LED flash as well as optical image stabilization, face detection and other features. The camera will also be able to record 1080 quality videos as well. And to support all of the functionality, the G2 comes with a quite comprehensive 3000mAp battery unit. To let you have an idea of just how comprehensive the battery is, the Galaxy Note 2 comes powered by a 3100mAh unit. The battery on the G2 though is not user removable but has enough juice to support about 15 to even 20 hours of usage.

Another unique quality of the G2 is the placement of the physical switches along the rear which no doubt is a unique design feature.

LG G2 Release Date – Verizon Launches Sign Up Page after HTC One and Moto X

August 18, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson 1 Comment

It seems Verizon is on a signing up spree. For no sooner had it launched a sign up page dedicated to the HTC One and the Moto X, here comes another one for the recently launched LG G2 device. This should come as a welcome piece of news for Verizon subscribers who are looking forward to the LG G2 release date as they now have a place to register their email id to be informed of the latest development concerning the device.

However, as it has been with the HTC One page, no exact date has been mentioned as to when it shall be available at Verizon. Its subscribers though should be relieved the carrier has started off early with the LG G2 which is unlike how it treated the HTC One. Verizon seems to have woken up to the HTC flagship device only now, months after the same has reached the US via other carriers.

The LG G2 clearly is the hottest smartphone device right now. However, the Verizon version of the G2 seems a bit different from the standard model LG launched earlier this month. The changes though seems limited to the exterior of the device which includes a more prominent camera surround as well as the rear mounted buttons. As for the carrier’s logo, there is one placed at the rear in the middle while another has been placed on the front, along the top right edge. One of the most prominent design features of the LG G2 is the incorporation of buttons at the rear to allow for ease of access.

LG G2

The flagship device from LG comes with a 13 MP camera with image optimization and is powered by a Snapdragon 800 quad core processor. The chip together with a 2 GB RAM makes for a powerful combination which should be enough to allow the device to run more than one application easily and with the least hiccup. LG is also emphasizing on the smartphone’s UI as a major selling factor of the device. The device also features a 5.2 inch full HD display which LG is claiming to be the thinnest in the world.

Meanwhile, LG has confirmed the flagship device on it’s release date will be available via all leading carriers in the US. The device will be up against the Samsung Galaxy S4, the HTC One as well as the upcoming iPhone variant. Also, Verizon has taken up the LG G2 at a time when Verizon is busy with the upcoming Motorola series of devices, like Droid Maxx, Droid Mini, and Droid X. Apple on the other hand is also planning of launching iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C and Samsung too is bringing forth its latest produce Galaxy Note 3 which will be competing with the large display screen of LG G2.

LG Announces the Development World’s Thinnest High Definition LCD Display

August 4, 2013 By Georgia Dawson Leave a Comment

Recently, LG announced that is has developed a very thin display that measures only 2.2mm in thickness. Undoubtedly it is the world’s thinnest full HD LCD display. The display has been mainly developed for smartphones.

lg-display

The new display panel measures 5.2inch (132mm) and comes with a display resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. As compared to other smartphones in the market that use LCD display, the new full HD display from LG seems to be much brighter. When LG made announcement on the new display technology, it did not reveal when the new technology will be made available.

In order to show that LG is working on the new display technology, the company has showed some images about the same. The screen’s bezel is slightly thicker at 2.3mm. According to the team of engineers, the new display is called by the name ‘Advanced One-Glass-Solution.’ The Advanced OGS allows the usage of touch screen layer directly under the protective cover glass. So, there is no need for having a separate touchcreen layer.

The new display technology from the Korean giant consumes less power and thereby it can effectively help in saving costs. The three major components like battery, display and camera modules consume a lot of space. However, consumers desire to use devices that come with small sized components. Hence, manufacturers are working very hard to flatten their devices.

In terms of price, the display along with the touch screen is the costliest component of a smartphone. The other important items that are costly in smartphones are flash memory and CPU. LG has reduced the number of lines in the display which makes it possible for the display produces more brightness.

LG Display has always been known for pushing the envelope to develop newest display technology for smartphones and tablets. In the previous month, LG had announced that are working heavily on the production of flexible and unbreakable display panels for smartphones. A cool thing about the bendable display is that it is also thinner than the conventional LCD displays. However, LG is not the only firm that is working on high-tech displays. Other major brands like Apple, Samsung and Nokia have been working on producing bendable display since couple of year.

In June, Huawei had announced that they will soon be launching the world’s thinnest smartphone with a thickness of 6.18mm. The device is called Ascend P6. The iPhone’s thickness is 5.76mm and the Galaxy S4’s thickness is 7.9mm.

In terms of revenue generation, LG Display ranked fourth largest manufacturer that are mainly meant for smartphones and tablets. The research was conducted by data vendor NPD DisplaySearch. The report showed that 12% of the market share was held by LG, 23% belong to Samsung, Japan Display accounted 15% and Sharp held 13%.
