Microsoft has plans of introducing an 8 inch tablet in the market, a device that is likely to be named the Surface mini. Unfortunately, this could have clashed with Nokia’s plans that too are reported to have been testing an 8 inch tablet dubbed Lumia 2020. This would have been was the second product from Nokia in the tablet arena, the first being the Lumia 2520 tablet which comes with a 10 inch display and runs Windows RT 8.1. however, with Nokia being owned by Microsoft, it would have made little sense for them to field to devices that runs the risk of cutting into each other’s sales.
While Nokia is shelving their 8 inch tablet to make space for the Microsoft Surface Mini, early assumptions mention that the Nokia product would have been a better choice. It was supposed to have a snap on keyboard like that of the Lumia 2520 while the price too would have been better than the Microsoft product.
They had been working on the Lumia 2020 tablet based on the opinion and demands received from the general people. It had been given the code name of Illusionist and would have had all the specs like that of the Lumia 2520. This includes a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon chip and the display was to have a resolution of 1920 x 1080, the same as that of the 10 inch Lumia 2520 which when crammed into the smaller 8.3 inch display would have made for a higher pixel density. The 2020 was also speculated to come with a camera of high resolution. Nokia has also been instrumental in making the Windows Phone OS acceptable in the market today with their line of Lumia Smartphone.
The shelving of the Lumia 2020 has not been confirmed officially as yet, but has been stated to be true by reliable sources.
