Not too many things are known about the Microsoft HoloLens yet. While it is not a long time until Microsoft’s virtual reality device HoloLens is sent to app designers, the producer has been surprisingly discreet about its numerous software and hardware specs.
However, in a short presentation posted on the Internet, Microsoft’s experts unveiled a few details about their gadget, including a rather average battery power of around 5 hours. This limit is only applicable when using various Word files or e-mails.
An intensive usage, which likely is referring to the game playing and 3D apps the company has been incorporating to display the item’s capabilities, results in a considerably shorter battery lifespan, measured at around 2 ½ hours.
All people who were hoping to get extended game playing sessions might be disappointed by this news. It is not yet certain whether customers will be capable to power up their HoloLens while utilizing it, but Microsoft’s representatives did point out that the device has no features for wired connections, which probably represents its data bandwidth.
They also mentioned that any wireless and Wi-Fi system can interact with HoloLens and it will work with any universal app for the Windows 10 OS. Several gadgets can be connected together locally and via online platforms for a common user experience.
In regard to its questionable viewing perspective, the experts affirmed that was similar to having a 15” display at a distance of two feet from your eyes. That affirmation falls in line in the latest HoloLens presentations, even if the viewing angles, along with many other elements of the gadget, are prone to change, particularly since these specifications are only used for the developer version.
No other information was exposed during the demonstration but in 2015, we have seen that the first form of HoloLens carried an x86 chipset of some sort, 2 GB of RAM, Wi-Fi features and a refresh rate of 60 Hz.
Those willing to buy the new VR gadget can submit their application for the HoloLens development version online. Base models have an impressive price tag of $3,000 and could be delivered in the next months according to the schedule.
Compared to its competitors, such as Facebook’s Oculus Rift or Sony’s PlayStation VR, HoloLens is capable to project various hologram-like images that appear overlaid on real-life surroundings like a customer’s room.
As the experts have noticed, projections from HoloLens will seem like viewing video and audio material on a regular large display and without additional obstacles to it.
