September 30, 2013 By Troy Rubenson Leave a Comment

Even though there has not been confirmation from Microsoft’s side, speculations are high that Microsoft will be launching a mini version of Surface tablet. Recently, Microsoft had unveiled two new tablets namely Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2. Also, this week Amazon announced the arrival two powerful Kindle Fire HDX tablets which also fired up the rumors about mini version of Surface tablet.

Many felt that Microsoft would also be announce the Surface Mini alongside the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 but that did not happen. It is speculated that Microsoft is building up an ARM-basted tablet. What would be the size of the Surface Mini? Well, tech blogs are considering everything from 7inch, to 7.5inch to 8inch. Some are even of the view that the mini version of Surface will be advertised as Xbox Surface.

The Surface Mini tablet is expected to come out during spring 2014. Tech analysts have predicted that it will be running Windows 8.1 update which is being referred to as Spring 2014 GDR. The new General Distribution Release will bring it on par with Windows Phone 8 which is also to get GDR3 update. Microsoft is quite busy working on building up its operating system. It is also in the news that the software giant is also going to build Xbox One OS.

According to ZDNet, Microsoft is allocating team members who are working on Windows OS to work on Xbox One OS. The firm aims at rolling out the app and OS updates before Oct 14. However, Microsoft has not confirmed anything about it.

Microsoft Surface Mini is expected to feature a 7.5inch display that will offer an aspect ratio 4:3. It will also offer a display resolution of 1400 x 1050 pixels. The device is also expected to feature 3G and 4G connectivity. If this comes true, it will be the first time Microsoft will be offering such a connectivity feature on Microsoft.

If the Microsoft Surface Mini will arrive, it will compete with other 7inch tablets such as recently launched Kindle Fire tablets, soon to arrive Apple iPad Mini and the Google Nexus 7. There is no information on the price tag of Surface Mini but rumors have it that it will be available with a price tag of about 329USD.

There are lots of rumors going around about the Surface Mini tablet thanks to acquisition of Nokia’s mobile division by Microsoft. So, going by this, many tech experts have even predicted that Microsoft will be manufacturing the Surface Mini through Nokia. It is in the news that Microsoft does not want Nokia to manufacture own tablet but rather wants Nokia to work on the Surface Mini.

What do you think about Surface Mini? Would you consider purchasing mini version of Surface? Will the Surface Mini be of any competition to the next gen Apple iPad Mini, Google Nexus 7 and the recently launched Amazon Kindle Fire HD entry-level model and 7inch Kindle Fire HDX? Do let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
