Android KitKat Update Hits Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 Devices

November 13, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

Nexus users have reason to cheer as those that had still not been getting their Android 4.4 KitKat update would be getting so or might have already started to get the update. Nexus 5 users would be getting Android 4.4 KitKat loaded on their devices as it is, for this is the latest in the line up of Google handsets. So far as the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets go, they would be getting their update today. For Nexus 4 and Nexus 7, users would have to yet wait a while longer.

Google released the android KitKat version about a fortnight ago. At its launch time, Nexus 5 was the only device that was being launched by Google and they did load the OS on that device. Google had indicated that past and future devices would all have this OS on it. While the future may have, Google does need to pay more attention to the devices of past. That the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets, which are 2012 and 2013 releases have received their update does show Google’s intent to keep to their word.

There is however a catch to the updating process. Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 which have a mobile data feature in them are not part of the update. Instead, it is only the Wi-Fi enabled devices that would be receiving the update and not the other devices. Dates for the other devices to get their updates have also not been specified by Google.

Another device that Google has completely excluded in their KitKat update is the Galaxy Nexus. There is the issue of one year and half and more that the device had been released and therefore Google not supporting it any further so far as upgrades go. Users of the device however are trying to get Google to allow them as well into the update circle.

After users of the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 have updated their devices to KitKat the actual difference in working of the devices would be known, for it is then that these users are expected to report back their hands-on experiences with the new OS version.

Google Nexus 5 Release Date Rumored to Launch On October 14

September 23, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

One of the biggest Nexus 5 rumors doing the rounds right now is that release date is going to happen on October 14. There has been enough talk of the next device in the Nexus series of smartphones which man are claiming will also serve as the launch device of latest Android version, Android 4.4 KitKat. While several of the key specifications of the device have emerged online, the exact processor that is going to power the device is not yet known officially. Even the FCC listing of the device did not specify this aspect.

Nexus-5

Specifications of the device for those who missed it out earlier speak of a 4.96 inch display with LTE support and Bluetooth 4.0. It would have Qi wireless charging capability too. While the length and width of the device has been defined to be 131.9 mm and 68.2 mm respectively the thickness of the handset has not been detailed till now.

The reason for October 14 release date for Nexus 5 that is reported to carry the codename Hammerhead has a few linked logic to it. For one, Nexus 4 had been launched last year at around the same time. There is also the issue of Google launching their latest Android OS the KitKat on October 14. The new OS would most logically come riding on a new gadget too. Nexus 5 is the only Google gadget that is in the offing. Another factor that does serve as a strong indicator of a new Nexus being in the offing is that Google has sold out of existing Nexus 4 stocks. And the company is showing no signs of replenishing it either.

The company to make the Nexus 5 gadget is in all probability LG. They had done a very good job with the Nexus 4 and therefore no reason for Google to consider any other maker. In that case the probability of the Nexus 5 bearing a close resemblance to the G2 handset from LG is once again a very logical conclusion.

For anxious consumers, the first week of October should be the time when all these speculations are likely to be converted into reality. For that is when Google would be sending out invites, if the date of 14 October has any real value, that is.

Nexus 5 vs Nexus 4 – Rumored Google Nexus 5 Photo Inside

September 10, 2013 By Troy Rubenson Leave a Comment

Recently we published a post wherein during a private meeting showing cast Android v4.4 KitKat, a user was found using the Google Nexus 5. Also, the FCC filing of a new Nexus device has surfaced. The last quarter of 2013 is fast approaching and it is rumored that Google will announce the Nexus 5 during this time.

Still nothing much is known about the Nexus 5 release date and its features. Very recently, a user from Reddit had published a leaked image of the Nexus 5 alongside with the Nexus 4. We have got the pic for you. When you compare the Nexus 5 with the Nexus 4, the image certainly shows that the new Nexus will sport a refreshing design.

rumored nexus 5 alongside nexus 4

The pic uploaded by the Reddit user is not the real image but a rendered image of the possible design. By analyzing the photo, we feel that new Nexus 5 will come with a larger display. The Nexus 4 has got a 4.7inch display. So, we assume that the manufacturers will introduce a 5inch display on the new Nexus 5.

By the way, who is going to manufacture the next Nexus 5? The image of the new Nexus 5 does not remind us of LG G2 or any of the phones from the LG family. So, may LG will not be manufacturing the next Nexus 5. The looks of the Nexus 5 looks quite similar to the recently released Nexus 7. Some experts say that Samsung is going to make it whereas some others say it would be Motorola device.

As far as tech specs are concerned, the Nexus 5 is expected to feature 1080p resolution on its large display. It will be powered by Snapdragon 800 CPU. Also, it will come with other perks like vanilla version of the latest Android v4.4 KitKat OS, NFC and other features. Though a definite Google Nexus 5 release date is not known yet, the device is expected to arrive in the month of October.

Android 4.3 Will be Rolled Out on White Nexus 4 on June 10?

May 18, 2013 By Janet Vasquez Leave a Comment

There were a lot of expectations from the Google I/O event but sadly there was no announcement on the new version of Android and the new Nexus devices. At the event, Google mainly concentrated on developers. However, just a day after the event, fresh rumors are doing rounds on the arrival of a white Nexus 4 device running on Android 4.3 to be out on June 10th.

googlenexus4white

The new rumor has been released by Android and Me. It is not clear whether Google simply announce the products or hold a special event to proclaim the arrival of Android 4.3 on white Nexus 4. Since Google I/O took place recently, they may not be holding another event so on. According to Android and Me, the white Nexus 4 with 16GB storage space onboard will be available through Google Play Store on 10th June. As far as specs are concerned, it’s going to be same as the black version of the device.

There is no news on whether the white Nexus 4 will support 4G LTE. Once the device is released with Android 4.3, the latest version of Android will be then made available to all the other Nexus devices. The white Nexus 4 is same as the black colored Nexus 4. It has got a 4.7 inch display, quad-core CPU and an affordable price tag.

As far as the new Android 4.3 is concerned, tech analysts believe that the new version of Android will support new Bluetooth features and also it will support OpenGL ES 3.0 for advanced graphics. We do not have much information on the other features of Android 4.3. What we do feel is that just Android 4.2 came out with numerous tweaks and small features, the Android 4.3 will come out with numerous tweaks for better user experience.

A week or two ago, tech analysts were unsure whether Google will release Android 4.3 or directly head on to Android Key Lime Pie 5.0. However, now it is quite evident that Android 4.3 is just around the corner. Hopefully June 10th is the day when we will see the new upgrade in action on white Nexus 4.
