Sony claims to have sold no less than 80 million units of the PS3 all over the world. Given the number, it is indeed quite an achievement for the device to achieve in its seventh years of existence. The PS3 also crossed the Xbox 360 sales figures in the US last month. The thinner and fresher look of the PS3 even though it meant removal of the PS2 compatibility that the earlier bulky design of the PS3 had, reflects on the acceptability by customers which has been converted to high sales figures. It has reached the 80 million unit mark on 2nd November.
The seven year period is quite a long one in the digital market and most items lose their life in that time period. This has not been true for the PS3 which developers yet hound to create games for. As per Sony there are a record number of 4332 applications that developers have released for the PS3. So far as registered account holders go, the figure reads 150 million the world over, which is all quite mind boggling so far as statistics go.
Come the holiday season, Sony expects more number of new titles to be added to the software’s that is at present running on the PS3. In their expectation the new titles should touch about 300 for the holiday season that is just around the corner.
One aspect to consider is that Sony has announced the launch of the PS4 this month. Yet developers are concentrating on the PS3 which indicates the popularity that this device enjoys from its beginning till now.
