According to The Verge, Microsoft will be announcing a price cut of $100 on its Surface Pro Tablet. This news has come after Microsoft had made it public that they have spent more on advertising their inhouse tablet rather than generating revenue through it.
Three weeks Microsoft had reduced the price of Surface RT tablet by 30 percent. Now, it has announced the price reduction of its Surface Pro Tablet. The 64GB Surface Pro Tablet will be priced at $799 and the 128GB Surface Pro Tablet will be priced at $899.
The Surface RT tablets were introduced in the market in October. However, the response of the Microsoft Surface tablets has been very poor. Microsoft has only made $853 million in revenue since the time it was launched. What’s bad about it is that Microsoft had spent less than $898 in advertising Windows 8 and Surface tablets.
Microsoft has only revealed the revenue it earned by selling Surface tablets but it did not reveal how many units they were able to sell. Also the company did not reveal the revenue generated individually by Surface RT and Surface RT Pro tablets. In the month of March, Bloomberg had disclosed that Microsoft might have sold nearly 1.5 million Surface tablets.
Microsoft which is very well-known for its Windows operating systems tried its luck in hardware by rolling out its own line of tablet PCs powered with Windows 8. Two devices, one running on Windows RT and other one Windows 8 Pro were launched.
The RT model only allowed installation of software available through Windows Store whereas the Windows 8 Pro allows installation of third-party apps. Both the devices failed to achieve popularity and have been heavily criticized by many tech analysts in spite of having decent specs.
After the failure of the Surface tablets, Microsoft has announced that they will be introducing new Surface tablets and would be fixing all the issues that they had with the older tablets. The new Surface tablets will be powered with Haswell CPUs which is known for delivering incredible battery life.
