A Whale Slapped a Woman Standing in a Boat

January 15, 2015 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

WhaleSome holidays are unique and not easy to forget. This was the case of a group of people who experienced a rather particular holiday. The group’s ideal vacation activity consisted of watching marine mammals. The vacationers remained amazed when a whale slapped a woman standing in a boat.

Although this activity may seem odd to some people, it has actually become a very popular one. The initial purpose of these kinds of sea trips was a pure informational one. Small groups of people were taken out at sea to observe the dangers wales had to face every day.

Alongside the Mexican coast, a group of people were awed when a wale approached them and slapped one of the people from the crew. The group was roaming in a small boat laughing and hoping to see some whales. Everything went fine when a grey whale suddenly approached the boat.

The attentive participants from the sea trip pulled out their phones and began filming. Even though it was not clear whether the boat came to close to the whale or the animal approached the beat, the whale began showing aggressive behaviour. Since people didn’t know how whales react when in distress, they did not take any safety measures.

The climax of the adventure was when the whale began swimming near the boat. People got excited to see the whale. Anxiety and agitation was all over the small boat. The whale approached the boast, flipped a few times its tales giving quite an exciting show. When retrieving the tale back into the water, the grey whale slapped a woman over her head.

It is known that whales tend to have an aggressive behavior towards boats. However, researchers have been amazed by the whale’s unexpected slap. It was assumed that the animal reacted in such an impulsive manner because it was disturbed by the group. Maybe the loud noises heard on the boat gave the sea mammal the impulse to react in that manner.

When hearing about this outstanding happening, one could think of Herman Melville’s book entitled “Moby Dick”. Even though this experience was not the case here, people have been warned of whales’ unexpected attitudes. This whales’ reaction was made as a sign of warning and not a sign of attack.

All in all, the woman from the boat was not badly hurt. She was taken to the hospital for further examinations and she was soon released with minor injuries.
