Samsung Gives us Five Times Faster Wi-Fi Speeds

October 13, 2014 By Janet Vasquez Leave a Comment

At the beginning of September, Samsung released three new amazing devices: the Galaxy Note 4, the Galaxy Note Edge and the Galaxy VR and now Samsung gives us five times faster Wi-Fi speeds!

Samsung Gives us Five Times Faster Wi-Fi Speeds

Wi-Fi is a tricky bastard, mainly because its actual speed is on a different planet from its theoretical speed. When you read the speed on a router box, for example, you should know that it is never going to be achieved, because of various reasons, including household appliances, walls and the device you’re trying to get Wi-Fi to. But it was just announced by Samsung that they’ve developed a 60 GHz Wi-Fi technology that will make Wi-Fi something out of a Sci-Fi movie.

Let’s say we believe Samsung and the fact that they’re saying that the new technology will let you download information with speeds of up to 4.6 GB per second. And that’s the actual speed, not the theoretical one. This means that the speed Samsung is talking about it five times faster than the Wi-Fi speed for consumer devices (around 100 MB per second).

What does this really mean? It means that you could download a movie on Blue Ray to your phone in less than 10 seconds. It means that you can stream high definition videos to your mobile device.

Samsung said in the official statement:

Unlike the existing 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi technologies, Samsung’s 802.11ad standard 60 GHz Wi-Fi technology maintains maximum speed by eliminating co-channel interference, regardless of the number of devices using the same network.

How did Samsung manage to achieve this unbelievable Wi-Fi speeds? By using control technology that forms micro beams. It’s OK if you don’t understand any of that, what’s important is that Samsung gives us five times faster Wi-Fi speeds!
