Tips to Make This Summer in Canada the Safest Ever

When it comes time to get in a bit of rest and relaxation, most of us are in so much of a hurry to get away that we don’t take safety into account. This year, when planning your summer vacation in Canada, make sure to make a safety checklist. You just don’t realize how many summer vacations have been ruined because of accidents which could have been prevented. If you are just now planning your summer vacation, keep these tips in mind to make this summer in Canada the safest ever.

Know Your Location

When researching the part of Canada you want to visit this summer, make sure to also research the location in terms of any known hazards. For example, if you intend to backpack or go camping, are there any dangers from wildlife or predators? Some remote locations do have wildcats, snakes and other dangerous creatures you should be aware of which may alter your decision or at least what you take along with you!

Water Safety & Boating Safety

Canadians love boating! According to statistics released late in 2014, the number of Canadian adults who took part in recreational boating between October of 2013 and the end of September in 2014 totaled 46%. That’s almost half the adults in the country! This year, if you plan on spending time on the water, it is vital to make boating safety a priority. Do you have your boating license and have you taken a course in boating safety? These things are extremely important and could, without trying to sound morbid, be the difference between life and death.

Carry a Mobile Phone and Backup Battery Pack

As the old saying goes, plan for the best but prepare for the worst. There are just too many times when vacationers are lost in some remote location and there is no place near to call for help. Every day you read about campers and backpackers being rescued in the wilderness, but you also read about those who were never found from time to time – or found too late! Whenever you venture out into the unknown, make sure to have a fully charged mobile phone and a backup battery or battery pack.

First Aid Kit and Local Emergency Numbers

Another thing you will need to carry with you at all times is a vacation emergency kit with such things as bandages, aspirins, antiseptic and even EpiPens in case someone in your party is bit by a pest he or she is allergic to or you happen to come in contact with some vegetation that causes a severe and immediate reaction. You will also want to have emergency numbers programmed into your phone for the location you will be vacationing in. In times of emergency, even a 3 digit number can elude you but a 1 digit button programmed into your phone is easier to manage.

Make this summer in Canada the safest ever for yourself and your entire group. Whether you are going camping in the wilderness, boating on the Great Lakes or visiting favorite ‘hot spots’ in cities across the nation. It really is better to be safe than sorry, so before packing your fashionable summer wardrobe, tick off the items on your safety checklist. Enjoy your summer!
