Law enforcement has found twins abandoned in their homes. Police reports show evidence that the twins’ parents left to Nigeria on a trip while their young children were left on their own. The trip lasted for four months while the children had to survive on their own.
In their defense, parents claim to have asked a relative to look after the children. Supposedly, the twins’ uncle would stop by the house to bring food. In reality, police has found no traces of edible food, only some long-forgotten noodles.
It is remarkable that the 9 year olds managed to take care of themselves for four months. They woke up and went to school by bus as usually. Other children would have been more than happy to miss classes since no adult supervision was in place. The twins wrote in the affidavit that they went to school on a regular basis where they ate breakfast and lunch. When school found out about their current situation, they reported it to New Hampshire Division for Children, Youth and Families for further actions.
The 9 year old twins were found with no food whatsoever and no functional phone. Their parents agreed with the twins’ uncle to move in into the apartment and look after them. Nonetheless, the agreement was quite differently interpreted by the uncle. He only checked the twins three times a week.
The uncle’s neglect and the parents’ delayed journey led to a series of consequences. The uncle was charged with child neglect while the twins are now in foster care. He was considered as having been a danger for the children. However, the uncle’s bale, whose name is Giobari Atura, is set at 500 dollars. The twins’ parents did not receive any charges whatsoever.
The twins’ parents reported that their journey should have lasted only a month. They had left in July to Nigeria. However, the country had been threatened with Ebola and other viruses. Because of health related issues, the parents claimed they were not permitted to cross the country. The rate of illness in Nigeria increased so the couple was no allowed to return home.
It seems that more cases of child neglect have been reported in the past months. A cruel and hard to imagine case is the open case of Scott McMillan. Scott is a three year old boy who has been beaten for days until he passed out. This case happened in November and it is still on trial for further actions.
