In order to be healthy there is no need for vigorous daily exercising. New study shows that walking two minutes every hour can prolong our life.

Sitting and not being active for long periods of time might have unhealthy effects on our body. New study shows that being active for just two minutes every hour could improve our health.

Earlier researches have shown that sitting for longer amounts of time during a day can heighten the chances of developing several diseases such as cardiovascular problems, premature death and even diabetes. The majority of Americans have a sedentary lifestyle and many of them don’t have a workout routine.Health officials recommend for people to get minimum 2.5 hours of moderate exercising per week.

Working out is one of the best things we can do for our body. Even the smallest time of physical activity can participate in the well state of our health. The research suggests that even the slightest changes can highly impact our condition, explained the author of the research Tom Greene.

The research was based on information received from over 3,200 people who took part in the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 2003 and 2004. The participants each wore devices that would calculate the intensity of their exercising.

Experts made a comparison between the health gain of weak in intensity actions like standing and light intensity actions like walking. The people involved in the research were observed for the duration of three years, during which 137 out of them passed away.

The results of the research showed that standing does not help in altering the damaging effects of sitting for hours. On the other hand light activities like cleaning around the house, walking, working in the garden, can all participate into prolonging the life of people who are sitting almost the entire day. Being active for two minutes every single hour lowers the chances of premature death with 33%, study shows.

The results of the study was a little surprising, as for the moment the main focus of a working out is based mainly on moderate or rough activities. Proving that light activities can have such a positive effect on health is indeed fascinating, explained doctor Srinivasan Beddhu, the lead author of the research.

Walking has countless benefits and can improve the condition of sedentary people. Following these results, researchers recommend for people to try and get 2 minutes of walking every hour of the day, combined with their usual moderate exercising which should stand for at least 2.5 hours per week.

Moderate activities improves the condition of the heart, strengthens the bones and muscles and brings to the table many other health benefits.

For example, even if a person is at the office, he/she can take a two minute break and walk around to improve their state. This will surely positively impact their health compared to the colleagues who prefer to sit all day stuck on their chair.

The results of the research were published in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.
