At the time of the crash, Dago was 22 years old. During that night she had just broken up with her boyfriend, stated reports of the police.
The whole night she had texted her boyfriend 60 text messages and in many of them the woman was telling him that she was done with him, that he had ruined her and that he will be to blame for her death. She also told him that she was drinking and driving and if she died it would be thanks to him.
The majority of the messages were sent while the woman was driving her rented Smart car with he friend Irina Reinoso, who was also 22 years old, on her right, according to the police officials. The name of Dago’s ex boyfriend was identified as DJ. Among the texts there was one in which she was calling him an idiot and was wishing him a nice life as she was sick of of his quick temper and attitude.
DJ did not respond to the majority of her texts and around 20 minutes before the accident he texted her: “What you talking about your phycho stop weirdo.”
Apparently, minutes later, at 4.44 a.m. she passed a red light and smashed into a pickup truck. When medical officials arrived Irina showed no vital signs and was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the pick up truck, 51 year old Benjamin Byrum was unconscious.
Byrum had suffered just some bruises and he admitted that he is alive thanks to the Smart car. If it would have been a bigger car he would have been dead.
One of the police officer felt an alcohol door coming from Dago and blood test have shown that the woman had a double alcohol level than the legal limit. After the blood tests proved her condition, police arrested her in January 2014.Dago and Irina had been friends for just two months.
Irina Reinoso was dreaming to work in the law enforcement and she was a student at Miami Dade College. Her mother stated that she was a person very close to her family, had a big heart and was always smiling. Just one day before the accident, Dago, Irina and a bunch of friends went to the beach. At night, Irina went out with Dago to a club in Miami.
The defence lawyer of Dago, David Rothmans, state that Dago and her family were praying every day for Irina, the young girl who died in the crash and her family. He added that they consider it was a lack of respect for Irina’s family to make public comments.
Dago was released on bail and has pleaded not guilty to the accusations brought upon her. The date of the trial has not been set yet.
