Amid the number of cancer patients rising unabated in light of poor awareness, the month of September serves as a time to shed light on the word cancer as it marks the Childhood Cancer Month.
September is the month which is dedicated towards reminding us to continue to roll up our sleeve and donate blood to support those with cancer.
In the United States, around 13,000 children under the age of 21 are diagnosed with cancer every year. Moreover, in a glaring exposure, the government advisors have said that the United States is facing crisis in curing the deadly cancer disease as Americans are getting disorganized care with many of the patients not getting treatment based on the best scientific evidence.
Cancer treatment has grown so complex over the years that many US doctors can’t keep up with new information and are offering incorrect treatment to the patients, according to a report released by the Institute of Medicine, part of the National Academy of Sciences.
Throughout the cancer journey, patients may undergo various treatments, including chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. These treatments leave hazardous effects of the health of children. Hence, a proper counseling and awareness have become necessity in the war against cancers.
Cancer holds the second spot for the cause of death in the United States after heart disease, killing more than 500,000 Americans every year.
